There is one in town this week. There were some really trashy looking people working there. Where do they come from? does anybody know where those carnivals are based?

WHAT IGNORANT ANSWERS!
Are there disabled "carnis"? Yes, as there are disabled people in all walks of life.
Are there "carnis" who are felons? Yes, as there are felons in all walks of life. (And please don't hand me that crap about felons not being able to gain meaninful employment. Yes, having a felony on your record can make it harder, but there are convicted felons who are constantly proving that they can be successful.)
Are there "carnis" who are gypsies? Sure. And there are "carnis" who are of other groups as well.
Are there "trashy carnis"? Trashy is subjective, a matter of opinion.
Who are "carnis"? Well, "carnis" come from many different backgrounds. "Carnis" aren't all one type of person or another. What's more, they are not always employees of the carnivals. One carnival may include dozens of concessionaires and "book" ride owners who are not employed by the owner of the carnival. In such a case, the carnival owner usually owns many, perhaps the majority, of the rides, games, etc..., and everything else consists of concessionaires and people who "book" rides with the carnival and pay the owner a percentage of their gross profits. As I said, "carnis" come from many different backgrounds. Stereotyping them is no different than stereotyping anyone else.

I've been to a few ... only to take my kids and have always been disappointed. I know the people you speak of. Many "carnies" are lost members of our society with learning disabilities who fell through the cracks and carnivals are the only way they have found to earn an "honest" living. Some of them have minor felony charges against them and cannot find work anywhere else because of their past transgressions. And oddly enough some are just hooked on the carnival as it is the only family they've ever known. There are those who operate the rides and know more about mechanical engineering than many of our so-called-qualified structural engineering.
They are usually backed by promoters looking to make a fast buck.
It's in their blood. I still cringe when a carnival comes into town only because I know how much money the parents have to shell out to keep their kids off their backs.

The carnis are coming, the carnis are coming! Run for the hills!
I think they are a group of independent owners of rides, food stands, game stands that tour around the country from town fair to town fair.

Yea man, i remember in the 80s when i was a boy a nasty looking white broad with OZZY tattooed on the knuckles of both hands, a big ugly nasty heroin user, and i was getting on a carny ride that she was in charge of.......
these are loosers dude. They supplement their incomes by robbing during the day, since they go from city to city, they can never get caught.

They aren't based anywhere. They are run by Gypsies that make their living robbing every town they pass through blind. Keep your hand on your wallet.
