because it is a hard hitting, brutal game that takes talent and skill that a lot of people don't have. They also can have 3 practices a day which take a lot of energy out of you. It will hurt a lot if you get hit by Brian Urlacher.

Nothing in the US is simple...like anything here as advantages develop, new rules are made to level the playing field.
American football developed from rubgy and if we had seen the original game between Princeton and Rutgers, it would have looked very much like a rugby match.
American football however developed into a sport of skilled players with specific talents and specialties to form a team. No one specific player can will the team to victory no matter how talent that player is. A good example is baseball (another American pastime) were the only skilled player is perhaps the pitcher and designated hitter, all other players are expected to play defense and offense and more-less can be interchangible by position. Another example is European football (soccer).
Football developed into a team of very specific and skilled position. A quarterback for example is not interchangible with a offensive tackle. Each player has a specific function and must play under a certain set of rules to level the playing field. A good example is that the cornerback (defensive player) cannot interfere with the wide receiver (offensive player) when a forward pass is being attempted. However, the cornerback can make contact with the wide receiver within 5 yards of the line of scrimmage to alter the receiver's running route or change the timing of the play. All of these rules are made to allow very skilled players to play a team sport and yet have a level playing field.

Football is so hard because to learn all of the rules becuase all rules of any sport is hard to learn. All sports have a lot of rules and if you don't grow up playing a sport, then it is hard to learn. Plus, you need all of the rules to make the game a harder and more fun game. For example, one rule is: if you onside it on a kick off, don't get the ball ten yards, and the kicking team recovers, then they rekick and if it happens again than the receiving team will get the ball at that position. If there wasn't that rule, then the kicking team will keep kicking onsides over and over again until they actually get the ball. Also I think he english isn't good becuase he isn't from the USA or any other country that has english as a first language.

Cuz it's a teamsport and every person has a specific thing to do and when you put that all together, it makes a great team. Soccer isn't complicated at all. kick the ball and try to get it in the net. simple. football ISNT. but if you understand it, it is simple to you

We're Americans when has nething ever been simple? I mean starting from day 1, it was all the compromising and that didnt wrk, The Articles of Confederation wasnt good enough so we had to make a new bill. But we like the game action packed. We like to see action it stimulates us as a country. That would b my reasoning.

Because Americans are smart enough to relate. Anyone can stick to posts in a field and kick a ball around, it takes skill and brains to grasp football.

Simple games aren't any fun. They don't hold the short attention span of todays average sports fan.

So that simpletons cannot understand it.
The game is very complex, and after you learn the basics as a youngster, you build on your understanding of the game throughout your lifetime.
