Grocery stores, hardware stores, and garden stores carry bee and wasp killers. You want the kind that spray a long way. Use it after the sun goes down, or before the sun comes up because then they'll all be in the nest. The colder the temperature, the better. Spray 'em dead.

I have found that Raid Wasp and Hornet Spray sprays a long way and is very effective in killing wasps. I have a phobia where wasps are concerned. If I have to deal with a nest, I wait until dark so that all those evil flying killers are there. Then I take a deep breath, spray a lot to saturate the nest and run as far away as I can get. Be sure to not use a flashlight to shine on the nest because then they know where you are!
Since the nest you are dealing with is in the entranceway, I would make plans to stay the night with a friend nearby. That way you won't have to go by the nest to get back in the building. Get your car close so you can run to it quickly! Then the next day you can cautiously approach and check out the results! You probably need to say something to your fellow tenants because the wasp spray does have an odor. It's not bad, just noticeable.
Hey! You could have a brave tenant do the spraying for you! That's what I would opt for first.
This may all sound silly, but when you have a phobia you do silly things! Honestly, the Raid spray is great!

if you dont own the apartment call the landlord. if you do then get the raid stuff and spray but be careful they will come zooming out and will fly right back to attack. i called a professional exterminator to get stung. felt it was worth the money. besides i was too chicken. go figure... i will defend my home against an intruder with a weapon but i am scared shitless of a wasp.

Use a hose. Use full force. When it drops get the h*ll out of there. They will probably leave for some time and then you put the nest in a bag and tie it tightly. Keep the bag away from the house til garbage day. Be careful - those suckers are nasty.

Scrape it off and RUN! You can try doing this so it drops into a plastic bag to leave out in the sun to cook 'em. Scrape, it drops, tie bag and RUN! It will piss them off and they may rebuild. You can also try a bee/wasp 'knock down' product in the process.
