The graduate should not be responsible for cheers that rang out in the audience. The loud cheerers should be the ones who get to pay the price.
The school is trying to make an example of these students so they can have better control. But they are setting a bad example for fairness and justice. If they had an ounce of decency and fairness, they would have apologized to the students and gave them back their diplomas. The end does not justify the means!

Hells yeah. I would talk to the school first just to give them an easy way out. If they do not comply then I would not say anything to them. I would just say "I see". Then leave. At that point I would go to a lawyer. Once I have the lawyers back up, I would go again to the school with the lawyer. I would say "mr principle, I want you to meet mr lawyer. Me and him have talked about suing the school for not awarding my son his well deserves diploma. Is there a way I can change your mind before this goes any further. Again, I'm giving them a second chance. If that doesn't work then of to court it is. Threatening to go to court usually does not works because people makes empty threats all the time. However, when you show up with a lawyer or a court order people respond rather quickly. Especially when money is involved.

While this does suck,, it was the rule... But to make the students pay for the actions of the parents, friends.
I say if the case be with the parents cheers,,, then the school board should have just gave the diplomas to the students,, and made the parents serve a day for over cheering.... It's not like these students stood up there and asked for it..

I live in PA. They actually had this big conference with us students that if anyone in our attending party was not well-behaved, our diploma would be withheld. Ridiculous! It isn't our fault that our parents love us and want us to know they're there and cheering us on! Graduations should be loud and fun and a happy, not a church service. So we had to go home and tell our parents, "Now... you sit when they tell you to sit, and you shush! Keep your voice at an indoor level the entire time. No loud noises!" Yeah right. Unfortunately, all the parents did behave. Sigh. I do believe it is something to take up in court, it just isn't right. I just asked my parents their opinion, and they agree. If they cheered and my diploma wasn't given to me, they would've been up the school's you know what in court.

I still to this day don't have my diploma over crap that the school pulled. I was still able to go to college because the school couldn't say I didn't graduate, they just didn't give me a diploma. We moved 2 miles out of the school district less than one month before graduation. The school charged my parents almost $200.00 for tuition for that small period of time, stating that since I didn't live in the school district anymore it would have to be paid before graduation or I wouldn't be given a diploma. My parents refused to pay it on principle, but I got to participate in my graduation. I was so excited when they called my name (I thought I was just going to sit there and watch everyone else get theirs) and I went up and got the case thinking that the school had changed it's mind. When I got back to my seat I opened it up and it was empty-no diploma, just an empty case!! I was so bummed out!!

The graduates were not the ones yelling. How is it their fault for what people in the audience do even if they are family. Its very unfair to withhold these kids' diplomas.
While I don't think being disruptive is appropriate, what is wrong with clapping and a couple of whoops when someone gets their diploma? Its a happy occasion, not a solemn one. They even have to sneeze these days to get blessed!

I heard about that and it is completely rediculous. They did something stupid like that at the school my younger sister goes to.
It should be fought- and whoever didn't give the diplomas to the students is a horrible person.
I would take this to court and then some!!!!!

They will get them after the ceremony I'm sure!
The school was most likely trying to conduct a pleasant graduation for the majority of the graduates and families when a select group of idiots ruin it for people by acting like a bunch of minority game show winners. You know the type that jump around screaming?

Its just another case of bums who can't follow the rules. You can't cheer, ok? It ruins it for other people. Did you read the part last year where parents couldn't even hear their childrens name being read because of rowdy parents? They signed contracts, and even the ACLU said it was ok. Its not that hard to follow the rules, theres time for celebration after!
