For the most part I would agree with most of the answers here, however if you plan your trip you and your son can enjoy Vegas. The strip is NOT the place though. Bonnie Springs is a great place (located in Red Rock Canyon) as well as some of the Hotels.... MGM, Circus Circus or Excaluber. There are several museums in the area that are great to visit and some of the hotels have beautiful "night" shows on strip. TI has changed theirs so it is not the "kid friendly" show it used to be.

Because Vegas is so "adult" it is hard to say what would interest an 11 year old. You might check out the Imperial Palace for their Auto Collection... that is always a good museum to see. If you like hiking I suggest Red Rock Canyon as well.

Just remember to plan you trip so that you son is not left out of things... Vegas can be disappointing it you do not.

It all depends on how you structure your trip. First I would suggest staying at a hotel that is "kid friendly". Your best bet would be Excalibur or Circus Circus. Then you have to do some activity planning. With the exception of pools and arcades there isn't a whole lot for an 11 year old to do down on the strip. Plan a trip (the helicopter tours are great) to Hoover Dam/Lake Mead or to the Lied Discovery museum. If you have to stay close to the gambling take him to play at the FAO Schwartz in the Forum Shops at Caesars. The bottom line is that it can be fun for a youngster, if you keep him in mind when putting the trip together. The problem is, if you spend too much time planning for him you may not enjoy yourself the way you'd like to. As for exposing your child to gambling, I wouldn't worry too much, I grew up in Las Vegas and I didn't end up in G.A. Happy Traveling....

Stay away from the actual casino area (you can walk through them as long as you stay on the walkway). The Palms has an excellent pool that you can sneak into very easily. You would probably like Caesars Palace as there's plenty to walk around and see (mall etc inside). The Fashion Show Mall on the strip is a great huge mall and features actual fashion shows you can go check out for free. If you like Star Trek then there's tons to see at the Hilton by the Convention Center as it's all Star Trek themed. MGM has white tigers and the Rainforest Cafe. The Coke store(the huge coke bottle on the strip) has a "sodas from around the world" tasting that is pretty fun. ESPN zone has a huge arcade. Circus Circus has an indoor amusement park. New York New York has a huge roller coaster going around the entire casino. Stratesphere is cool to go up and check out the entire city from so high as well as amusement style rides on the top of it.

Yes, he would enjoy it, but l'm not sure that you would.
For all the hype that Las Vegas puts out for being "family
friendly" the strip is still a place for adults.
Your best bet, is to find a kid friendly hotel, and pick-n-choose what to see and do with regards to his age.
Nights will be the hardest because little on the strip permits
an 11 year old to enter--even with an adult. The new curfew
rules prevent it.
p.s. if you go, i recommend the star trek experience at the
Hilton. Have a good trip.

Probably not, unless he's REALLY into arcades or eating. Las Vegas is not really a place for anyone under 21. Most shows are not appropriate for those under 18, anyone under 21 can not loiter in the casinos, many restaurants won't appeal to children - or they'd be frowned upon.

IMO: Go to Disney or on a cruise instead. More for his liking.

Maybe for a day, only if you took him to the Hoover Dam. Other than that, I would not want to expose my child too much to the "Sin City." Second hand smoke, half naked chics, alcohol everywhere. you would really have to watch him closely. My parents took me there when I was young too, maybe 12ish I was, but we stayed inside Circus Circus and only left once to go see the Hoover Dam. they told me later on that they wished they had taken me elsewhere.

No, and I don't think you would either. Too many things are age restricted.
