The umbilical cord runs from the baby's belly button up to the placenta, which is a big bloody thing attached to the uterus. The cord is a couple of feet long. The doctors will cut the cord fairly close to the belly button, and the little "stump" that's left will fall off the baby in a few weeks.
After the mother delivers the baby, she must deliver the placenta. Then the other end of the cord comes out. The placenta and umbilical cord are usually burned as medical waste, but the blood that is inside of the umbilical cord is usually saved or donated.
Hey, that's a pretty good question. You might not know this if you've never had a baby.

Usually they clamp it in two spots and cut the cord between the clamps.......they trim off the excess cord later leaving just the bit you have to take care of for the first couple of weeks..but they will trim it down more later. The part attached to the mom comes out with the placenta. I think they do some tests on the cord blood, they do a visual test of the placenta (don't remember why) and then they just discard it when they are done.

They clamp the cord about 2 or 3 inches above the babies belly button and up towards the women's vagina they clamp it again due to blood loss when the cord is cut. They then cut the cord by the babies clamp, then your placenta comes from out of your body they take it and weigh it to make sure nothing is left inside you so you don't hemorrhage ( bleed to death) and you can ask them to save it for stem cells for your baby in case you ever need them to help with a disease or cancer or something your child may get while he or she is growing up. They are doing extensive research on that right now.

first, they clamp the cord near the babys tummy and about 4 inches down as well, then they or your hubby/boyfriend, labor coach, etc cuts in between the clamps. they dont cut the end from mom, b/c thats attached to the placenta which is all called the afterbirth. after the baby is born and this part is done, then you deliver the afterbirth. i never really noticed, i assume its just thrown out... lol i never noticed with either of my kids! i was too wrapped up in my new bundles to pay attention to what they did with all that. honestly, not a stupid question; i didnt know what would happen the first time i was pregnant.

They cut the cord a few inches from baby bellybutton area. it is then clamped closed and falls off in a week or two (it dries out)
the other end (part attached to the mother) is removed with the placenta (the part that attaches to uterus and feeds baby while pregnant) if you ever hear the term "after birth" its referring to the placenta being removed (its delivered just like the baby) A few things can happen with it after ward
1. its send off to be frozen (cord blood banking)
2. they discharge it (into the waste can)
3. They send it off to be donated to a blood banking organization (most moms aren't aware of this happening to it they think its just dumped)
4. Some crazy people like to keep it. (in some countries and cultures they keep the placenta take it home cook it and eat it to celebrate the babys birth (I KNOW NASTY HUH)

Well sometimes the father gets to cut it. They cut it near the baby's belly button and as far as the part that is still connected to the mother it comes out as after birth. The mother has to push out the after birth and placenta (it can feel like pushing out another baby). They usually discard it into medical waste unless you signed a consent for them to use it in testing and so on.

They cut it about 2 inches from the baby's belly. Then they attach a clip to it like one of those chip clips... the part that is at the other end is the placenta inside the woman... and, yup it goes into a garbage bag and out! There are some uses for it... google it and see.

the cord is cut somewhere between the mother and baby, after it is clamped to stop the bloodflow. The cord is not attached to the mother's body, but to the placents, which detaches from the uterus after birth. Its is disposed of as medical waste.

I as quickly as had a chum who became very on the brink of me. as quickly as while we've been sitting on the fringe of a swimming pool, she crammed the palm of her hand with some water and held it formerly me and pronounced this: "you spot this water heavily contained in my hand?" It symbolizes love. "that's how I observed it. as long as you hold your hand caringly open and permit it to stay there, it is going to be there. regardless of the undeniable fact that in case you attempt to close your hands around it, it is going to spill via the 1st cracks it famous." that's the best ppl do while they meet love. attempt to very own it, anticipate it, call for it, and it merely spills like the water out of your hand. If there are human beings you like, enable them to be unfastened beings. provide and don't anticipate. suggestion yet do no longer order. Ask, yet by no ability call for. it would sound straightforward regardless of the undeniable fact that it is a lesson that would take a life-time to truly prepare. it is the secret of genuine love. to truly prepare it , you ought to in actual fact experience no expectancies from those you like, and yet an unconditional being concerned" existence is alluring, stay it. in case you like some thing, enable it bypass. If it comes lower back to you, with out you having to plead or beg, then its yours continuously. If it does not then it became by no ability meant to be"
