The disciples of the Institute for Social Research of Frankfurt School, who founded critical theory. These included Marcuse, Horkheimer, Adorno, and Fromm.
Followers of Antonio Gramsci, who is credited with the concept of cultural hegemony, and the idea that one must overthrough the cultural underpinnings of democratic capitalism before Marxism can work.
The followers of Michel Foucault, who holds that truth is relative to power. Along with Derrida, Foucault is the basis of Post-structural thought.
The radical anti-imperialist followers of Frantz Fannon.
Incidentaly, Fannon became a Muslim and took the name Ibrahim. It is very easy to see a correlation beween Fannon's works and those of the followers of Sayyid Qutb.

I would have to say it is overboard political correctness. Everything Western is denigrated as the spawn of irrelevant, patriarchal, misogynistic, racist, homophobic, greedy, conquesting, dead, white males.

Our lifestyles are derived from Western culture. The concept of the individual as a citizen of the state, rather than a subject of the state, is Western. The scientific method is Western. So is the Socratic method, logic, calculus and so on.

I think it is shallow and lazy to dismiss Western achievements as mere products of a bloodthirsty race. Shakespeare, the Parthenon, the Space Shuttle, criticism of authority, medical breakthroughs, and many more things are the result of the much ballyhooed Western culture.

In no way is this intended as Apologetics for the excesses of Western culture. Sexism, Racism, conquest, etc. exist in all other cultures. The West is scapegoated simply because we were better at conquest. If Apaches or Aztecs could have landed on English shores, I'm sure the results would have been pretty terrible. Until someone can tell me of a Golden Age where a pure, unblemished race existed in perfect balance and harmony with...everything, I don't want to hear about Western culture being the sole whipping boy of all that is wrong with the world.

Stop and consider that your ability to criticize Western culture is a product of Western culture. In Western tradition you are an independent organism, rather than just being an organ within the organism.

it all depends on what you mean by "Western Culture." European culture is quite different from American culture, and our culture in the U.S. is quite different from Latin America's. All are part of Western civilization, but I consider Hispanic culture the biggest threat to the one we practice here. Europe, which was once much more liberal than the U.S., is recoiling from the Muslims who are moving into industrialized nations while retaining Islam - we have so few Muslims here that that does not apply, except by comparison with our immigrant problem. Anyway, "Eastern Culture" barely exists over here, so it's not clear exactly what non-Western influence you're referring to.

Lack of personal accountability and personal responsibility. Our founding fathers envisioned a society of enlightened citizens who cared about the greater good and acted in the best interest of the country. Yes, part of that equation obviously was individuals acting in their own best interest collectively would be in the best interest of the country. However, they never envisioned an ill informed, apathetic electorate voting based on 30 second sound bites.

The biggest threat to Western Culture -- is the inability of westerners to accept that previous mis-deeds, over the years has caught up with you.

The west colonized almost the whole world, in the process of "selling your culture," especially your religion, to people who were(are) really "incompatibe" with your ways. Also, the rampant theft and killings that accompanied your colonization, is coming back to bite you in the ***.

America, for example is what it is today -- the largest economy in the world because of massive exploitation and outright theft by your government sponsored multi-national companies, propped up by arm-twisting western controlled tools like The World Bank.

When you can't collaborate with corrupt third world leaders to rape their countries, you attack them for false reasons, eg. Iraq -- OIL!

Had you stayed a "closed society," and not ventured out to "conquer" by killing and stealing, you would not be having the problems you are having today, for example massive third world migration to your countries.

I guess, the "chickens have come home to roost," and people like Lou Dobbs and most right wingers have no clue how to handle it, except resort to your "killing" and "smearing" ways, in the process not solving a problem, just making it worse. America cannot live in isolation -- It needs to "bully" and "rape" the rest of the world to survive.: http://www.afroarticles.com/article-dashboard/Article/CNN-s-Lou-Dobbs---The-Minister-of--Propaganda-and-Enlightenment-/23562

Note: The U.S. picked up from where the colonial monster, Britain left -- Thus one can logically construe that America was(is) a "colonizer."
