they will blame their screwups on bush for taking away the national guard and their equipment. but they would at least be telling the truth this year.
oh, and to the guy above me. it is our responsibility individually. thats why we pay taxes as a collective society. If they want me to take individual responsibility, then stop taxing me. The new orleans people paid their taxes, but when it came time for the government to do what they promised (in exchange for the tax money), they f'd it up.

Hey, did you know that Katrina didn't actually hit New Orleans.. nope.. it hit other states.. Louisiana got the after effects..so wouldn't it stand to reason that FEMA was in the other states when they actually got hit by the hurricane??? Did you know that FEMA is mainly voluntary.. so if you feel they are not doing a good job then maybe you should volunteer, or are you one of those people that just like to sit at home and complain about everything...
If you should be mocking anybody it should be the President for not calling in the National Guard sooner.. not FEMA

I think about that program as an "entitlement" about as much as social healthcare. If you are going to stay in a place that is prone to the weather you better be able to put up with it rather than making it big government's problem to 'come and save you,' and give you a welfare card and move you off to Dallas where you can live for months in a posh hotel and become a crime problem. How big do you want FEMA to be and how much tax you wanna pay?

Yeah - Attention ALL state Governors and Mayors: Don't force people out of their homes when a devastating storm is about to blow through.
Blow all the financial resources given to you over the past TWO DECADES to upgrade your City's dikes... And by all means, blame the President or FEMA that they failed to be responsible for people you were elected to protect.

"Ask not, what [FEMA] can do for you; ask what you can do for your country."
One of the only decent Democratic presidents said that. He probably wouldn't recognize the Democratic Party today.

FEMA has not improved since Katrina and most of our national guard is in Iraq. I guess we need to start signing up to do what our country can't.

I believe in individual responsibility; if you jump off the cliff, it is NOT the Government's responsiblity to catch you.
Sorry, no sympathy from me.
Hurricanes are part of life, like tornadoes, floods, forest fires, mud slides...
