Dude they aren't African Americans! Most of them have never been to Africa and a lot of them don't even know where it is. When we stop dividing ourselves and instead embrace our Americanism that will the best thing that has happened to Americans of color!

Slavery. Yep, slavery. Were it not for slavery they would not be African Americans born in the most magnificent country ever seen on planet earth. IF they would be born at all, they would be born with a 6% chance of being born with AIDS in Somalia or Darfur or some other African country where genocide is commonplace. They have a right to be furios at the treatment of their ancestors but it is this suffering that made it possible for them to be born today as African Americans.

Forget about King and some of the others, the one thing that helped to uplift the African community is MOTOWN

I am not answering your question, just want to comment on other people's answers.
Guys, if slavery never happened, there is a good chance Africa wouldn't be like it is today.
LOL, people actually think it was good for slavery to bring African Americans to the US. I have never even considered some of my fellow Americans were so arrogant.

I don't know about the best thing for them but Hurricane Katrina certainly brought out the best in them.

Affirmative action, the right to vote, and equal rights are all the big ones. Affirmative action is one that I would say has done the black culture more harm than good because they are given opportunities and they do not earn the benefits based on merit. the other two have done many good things to make them able to compete with the rest of the society.

Being brought here. For the record for those who do not know history. Blacks in Africa sold out blacks to be shipped to America making more money off then than we did.

I think the fact that they are not starving in Africa is the best thing that happened to them.......Oh yeah, and the end of slavery.
