Basically, it is about 3% or 1 in 33. The chance of having 'natural' fraternal twins is only about 1.7% or 1 in 60. The chance of having identical twins has remained steady, and is about 0.4% or 1 in 250. The chances of having twins with the use of fertility treatments can be as high as 20 to 25%.

* chance of having 'natural' fraternal twins: 1 in 60
* chance of having 'natural' identical twins: 1 in 250
* chance of having 'fertility treatment' multiple: 1 in 4

Common factors that increase the chances of conceiving twins.

* Fertility Drugs: Taking fertility drugs or undergoing fertility treatments can significantly increase your chances of having twins or another type of multiple birth. In some cases, it can increase your chances of having twins by more than 20%.
* Age: Your chances of having twins increases as you grow older. The chance of having twins rises to 4% between the ages of 30 and 34, and to 5% between the ages of 35 and 39.
* Family History: Having a maternal history of twins or other multiple births increases your chance of becoming pregnant with twins considerably.
* Cultural Background: People of African American descent are more likely to have twins or multiple births. People of Asian or Hispanic descent are less likely to have twins.
* Previous Pregnancies: Women who have had four or more previous pregnancies are the most likely to have twins.

Good Luck

I have been told that twins skip a generation. So when I found out I was pregnant I thought it was a done deal, I was having twins. My mother is a twin and my boyfriends mother is a twin. But I didn't, so "it just goes to show, ya never know!"

Your chances are as good as anyone's these days. People who have no twins in their family lines, have twins. People who have lots of twins in their line have twins. It's just as good a guess as the next person. Sorry I'm no help.
I have twins and love them to pieces. My grandpa's a twin, and my grandma's brother and sister are twins. I just don't know.
-Sorry.

fraternal twins are genetic not identical. identical twins are just chance. fraternal twins are passed through the mother. she passes a trait where the women release more than one egg at a time. good luck.

I guess your chances are quite high, seeing as it runs in your family. Also, most twins are born to women in their thirties, so the odds are even higher for you then.

Generally for you to be "eligable" for lack of better words to have twins it has to be on the mothers side.

I'd say your chances are pretty good. Although it is possible that it'll skip a generation.

-Sorry-
