About a year ago I saw the most strange creature living in my shower, and no one I have spoken to has any idea what it might be. It was about 10mm long and looked exactly like a leaf on the outside (originally I thought it was a leaf attached to the wall by a spiderweb). Every now and again, a worm-like head (4mm long and white with a black head) stretched out of the top (or bottom) of the leaf structure and moved around very similarly to how a caterpillar head moves when feeling around for the next place to walk. The worm structure shot back into the leaf structure when there was a loud noise or some other disruption (water sprays etc). Does anyone know what this creature is!?

some caterpillars live in shelters they build out of debris, which can include leaves. Odd to think of one of those living in a shower, but who knows. I don't know where you are, but in N. America there is an insect called a bagworm that seems a bit similar to what you describe.

There are all sorts of insects that look like leaves... Like some types of praying mantis. However, nothing I've ever heard of sounds like that... You should have captured and taken it to your local Cooperative Extension Office. They have information on pretty much everything. By the way... It sounds creepy.

I am not sure exactly what it is called but it probably is an armored catepillar.
