unless you live in a rural area, you'll likely find that your city or town regulates home businesses. You'll have to find their regulations [try their website] and the procedures to satisfy them.
If you have a homeowner's association [I do], it may regulate or even prohibit some types of businesses in the home. You'd best check.
In addition, your homeowner's insurance very likely excludes loss due to business use of the property UNLESS you tell the insurance company up front AND pay extra. Consult your agent.

Hi.
That's sound advise from 'GL' and definitely follow that through in those areas, particularly with insurance, tax regs, local councils regs and by-laws, and even health regulations. If your handling food, it needs to be done correctly and in accordance with the proper authorities guidelines.
The other thing you need to, if all above departments are satisfied, is to survey the market. Find who while support your services. Look for groups that have functions and need outside catering for meals.
Organizations like sporting groups, official business functions and even weddings are good one as well.
Some, home work on your part is required. Best of luck with your venture.
Cheers, Peter

In most states this is legal, you need to contact your local Dept of health & find out what the guidlines are. Your homeowners ins probably won't cover it, however its not a risky business, so the insurance is probably reasonable. I think your biggest obsticle with be getting a clean bill of health & permit from Dept of health. ( because your working with food)
