I have a chance to live in one of these cities for my job. I am married with kids, we're a young couple in our 20s, I am a moderately high income earner, and looking for a great kid-friendly city with nice, safe suburbs.

We're also evangelicals and conservative Republicans and we want a place where traditional values and embraced and valued. A great church-going community with a conservative atmosphere would be ideal.

We're also very outdoorsy--love parks and hiking, etc. We enjoy sports--professional and otherwise.

Which one of the above cities would make the best fit?

Thanks!

Based on your description of your family, I would recommend Nashville. I have lived in 3 of the cities you listed, and while Atlanta is the city I would consider my "home", Nashville is much more family-values oriented.

Some Nashville facts for you:
* EVERYONE I met in Nashville goes to church, most independent or southern Baptist.
* Conservative is an understatement for the overall political environment.
* The nice suburbs are easily and quickly accessable from the major business centers.
* Cost of housing is reasonable (but not as low as Houston).
* There is professional football and hockey in the city, and a nearly fanatical base of college football watchers.
* Economic growth is almost assured because of the lack of state income tax. Oh yeah, that is good for you too...

Downsides to the other cities I have lived in: Denver is pretty liberal even if there are a lot of people that vote republican, Atlanta's family friendly suburbs have gotten too far out of town to make the commutes reasonable.

Oh C'mon! Louisville is great! :) I live in suburbia in Louisville too. But I used to live downtown on 3rd street. Maybe you should consider moving downtown for a while. We celebrated New Year's with the Mayor on 4th Street Live - FREE! There are free concerts at 4th Street live and all sort of things to do now downtown! Plus, the bus lines run over to Southern Indiana, so you can go to Green Tree or the new WalMart at exit 5. Maybe you just need a little change. :) There are all sorts of condos and lofts for sale, and there are plenty of apartments downtown. We lived at Crescent Centre on 3rd and loved it. I still work in downtown and love it! :) I actually miss living there! Downtown, you've got: Slugger Museum, Slugger Stadium, the Ali Center, the Center for the Arts, all the theaters, Trolley Hops, the Belle, the Spirit of Jefferson (smaller than the Belle, but cheaper), the Falls of the Ohio park and museum, all the restaurants and activities on the river, Glassworks, Frasier Historial Museum, and Kentucky Kingdom! You're also close to the Highlands if you're into the coffee shop scene. :) Or, if you're into gambling, you can go to the track(s) or over the river to the casino. I love Kentucky (I was born and raised in Ohio, but have been here for 18 years) and no matter where I've gone or where I've lived, I always have come back to Kentucky. It is so beautiful and the people are so nice. If you go to a larger city, even one in the South, you might lose that. And I find it precious. Good luck! :)

My daughter lives in Boulder County just outside of Denver. Schools are good. There are many parks and points of interest for families and children to visit. A modest home there starts at $300,000.

Louisville. I can't speak for the other cities, but Louisville is beautiful, the people are super friendly, the cost of living is low, at least compared to Chicago where I am, and they have Southern Baptist Seminary there. Lots of strong churches because of that. The schools are good too...they have magnate schools/specialty schools and city-wide bussing. In other words, you get to pick where your kids go to school. Good luck!

Denver hands down. Check out Colorado Springs. I like it better. Got Pikes Peak, Black Forest, etc. Much newer.

I think any of those would fit your parameters--

but my family and friends have said wonderful things about Denver, Charlotte and Louisville.

My best to you!
