If I remember right it could be anywhere between 2 and 4 Oz's. I think it has alot to do with the weight of the baby too... my daughter was able to eat at least 4 or more Oz's in a sitting, but she weights well over 10 lbs too... the best thing if your not sure is too call the hospital or where you had the baby and they should be able to tell you the amount for your baby... As for the spit up, my kids all had a whitish color spit up until they were eating jar foods, then it varied to the food... I hope this helped.... And Congratulations!!

You know, a baby that young doesn't really eat that much at all. They will just eat when hungry and stop when full. If you are nursing, I was given some advice that might help. Just let the baby eat for 10-15 minutes on each side and don't let them fall asleep. Also, the color of the spit up will more than likely resemble what the baby is eating. A little darker isn't a problem either cuz of what the stomach fluids are. I hope this helps you.

Congratulations!! My 3 month old used to feed round the clock every 2 hours. And as I was new to breastfeeding, it would take me a good 45 minutes to an hour to finish both sides. I am not sure how much she took, but unless your milk has come down, it wouldnt be more than an ounce! If your baby is on formula I would not give more than 2 ounces at one sitting. Spit up will be curd like and cream color. The first few weeks are the toughest, but hang in there, it gets better :)

I'm sorry, but trying to go by "should eat" amounts is pretty much counter-intuitive. Everyone is giving these amounts that "books" give us. Trust yourself, and your baby. Babies won't overeat....it hurts! If breast-fed babies are fed on demand, why not formula fed??? They don't ask the mom who breast-feeds to figure out ounces....they don't chastise her for "over-feeding." Go with nature, even if you can't breast-feed.

My sons were big eaters....my first would eat 4 oz formula at a time, 4-5 hours apart. My second would eat 3 oz every 4 hours. They were well over 48 oz a day at 6 weeks. They were big guys, they needed more food.

Spit-up should smell just like what went in. If it smells like acid, then it's come from the stomach....spit up is just what comes out of the top if they're a little too full, or have a slightly immature stomach opening.

Trust yourself, and trust your baby!!! (((HUGS)))

Oh, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! :D

The spit up should be white, if he's drinking formula. If he's breastfeeding maybe it'll be a little clearer. The baby can be taking anywhere from 2-4 ounces until they're 2 months and then they'll probably increase to 4-6 ounces.

Baby spit up is usually white to clear fluid....depends on how long ago he ate.

Most babies eat about 2-3 oz at first. If you're nursing, about 5 minutes on each breast

If you are breastfeeding contact a lactation consultant. They can answer all you questions and help you out if you are having difficulties. Lots of women have trouble breastfeeding, if that is the issue, so there is nothing to be ashamed of. Congratulations on your new baby!
