I've seen almost all the ones already mentioned, but my answer is "The Last Temptation of Christ" - much more controversy at the time it came out than "The Passion" - and one totally needs to be open-minded to watch it - well worth watching with a great cast!

Salo - I mean they killed the director because of the film!
Fando and Liz - THough I didn't think so, the crowd caused a huge rebellion and fight outside the premeirer. Something about the politics within the film
Last Temptation is a good call too. I remember when it came out and all the Christians went haywire.

A Clockwork Orange, The Temptation of Christ or Finnian's Rainbow...it's a toss up! I suppose it depends on what you believe to be right and what offends you. Some of these I didn't always find controversial, but in retrospect it shows how time has changed our perspective on what's socially acceptable and what's not!

American History X, plus it's an awesome performance by Ed Norton. The film really brought out the emotions

Crash or American History X are definately the 2 most controvertial movies I've ever seen. Third would be Boondock Saints. All great movies, you should see them if you haven't already.

I watch a lot of those. "Fahrenheit 911" was probably the one with the most controversy in the news, Others included "Pasion of the Christ", "Walk on Water", "The Control Room", "Fast Food Nation" and "Silver City".

Yoe would not believe the stir that was caused by "The Exorcist" when it was first released to theatres in the early 70's. I literally saw an Hispanic woman scream and run out of the theatre!

Gonna go with Passion of the Christ. Nothing gets people more happy or upset then Religion! How dare you blame the Jews for killing the King of the Jews!

I saw the original, and it was twisted. The most controversial I've seen though was Do the Right Thing. You watched it, and either got pissed off, or ready to fight somebody.
