I had a call-in radio show in Wichita in the 1990s, and a guy called in, saying he had lost his brother. I let him give name, description, month and year of birth -- not thinking how I might be aiding identity theft.

But that didn't happen. A person heard the show at a convenience store, and knew the lost brother, who was living under a bridge, half-starved and isolated. The friend called the station and put the lost brother on with my producer, and we made the match-up off the air. The lost brother moved in with the caller, and eventually recovered his dignity.

I don't know if that would work today, but you might give it a try.
