I knew that Jesus and all that happened over there, and that there was Saudi Arabia and the oil there and that places like lebanon were always in the news with war and fighting. But it never occurred to me they were real people like you and I until I got older.

well i would sue your school if you'd never heard of the middle east, they taught us about the middle east, far east, and all the other regions of the world. As for interest in the region, once the oil runs out, well obviously it wont hold the importance as it does at the moment, the facts are simple we need their oil, and we need the price and the region to be stable, as the worlds economy depends on it, other states in the region are investing in developments like Palm Island. Not all the countries are anti west in that region and realise they have to be part of the world society if they want to exist.

The only thing I remember about the middle east while growing up was a video of Saddam Hussein walking through the streets, shooting an ak-47 into the air.

It has become very volatile over the past few years. I hope peace comes to the region soon.

How old are you, anyway? My mom is 92 and she remembers learning that 1948 - First Arab-Israeli War ---- - ---------------------- In Palestine, Arab protests against partition erupted in violence, with attacks on Jewish settlements that soon led to a full-scale civil war. The British generally refused to intervene, intent on leaving the country no later than August 1, 1948, the date in the partition plan for termination of the mandate. When it became clear that the British intended to leave by May 15, leaders of the Yishuv decided to implement that part of the partition plan calling for establishment of a Jewish state. In Tel Aviv on May 14 the Provisional State Council, formerly the National Council, “representing the Jewish people in Palestine and the World Zionist Movement,” proclaimed the “establishment of the Jewish State in Palestine, to be called Medinat Israel (the State of Israel) … open to the immigration of Jews from all the countries of their dispersion.” On May 15 the armies of Egypt, Transjordan (now Jordan), Syria, Lebanon, and Iraq joined Palestinian and other Arab guerrillas who had been fighting Jewish forces since November 1947. The civil war now became an international conflict, the first Arab-Israeli War, called the war of independence by Israel. The Arabs failed to prevent establishment of a Jewish state, and the war ended with four UN-arranged armistice agreements between Israel and Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria. The frontiers defined in the armistice agreements remained until they were altered by Israel's conquests during the Six-Day War in 1967.

My mom is of Scottish decent, so it's not as if she were living this history or anything. It just that in times past, people actually learned history in school. I'm in my 50's, and I too, remember learning about the Middle East and the political implications of the area.

Schools, since the late 60's are so worried about being politically correct, that they don't teach proper history.

You will still hear about middle east due to war conflicts and dwindling oil. And if it wasn,t because of oil, sure you would hear about them as they are very important in ancient History of the world.

There was a problem with the Suez Canal in the mid-fifties. I don't remember who was fighting who during that situation, but it involved the British and the French and probably Egypt. There was also another problem in Lebanon in the late-fifties where the US Marines became involved. I remember seeing a picture of people sunning on a beach in Lebanon with the Marines coming ashore. People lying there sunning themselves in bathing suits, and here comes the Marines. Twas an interesting picture.

I was 16 when I saw Sadat being shot on television. I didn't know about politics or oil but i did know there was a war in Beirut. There was no internet in 1981 either.
It wasn't about oil. So even when the oil runs out ... they will still fight and kill in the name of religion.
I didn't grow up in UK or US though so maybe it's all down to the media?

"What the hell is misguided with those those that run it?" they are merely as religious and delusional through fact the loads. the only distinction between what is going on in those places with "Islam" and what is going on in "Christian" dominant societies, is that Christianity is a few hundred years older, for this reason they are slowly determining how barbaric their faith is and it is getting watered down (maximum forget concerning the barbaric commandments). The Bible teaches each and each of an identical barbaric crap like stoning human beings to dying for petty motives. somewhat the respond on your question is by using the fact those international locations prepare the basics of religion. You look bowled over that faith would desire to reason plenty pointless dying and suffering. that's what happens while maximum all of us is delusional and stay their lives in accordance to the barbaric scribblings in an historical fantasy. human beings ought to lose the bronze age barbaric delusions and wake the hell as much as the 21 century. basically then can we are hoping to stay in a extra civilized worldwide.
