The only known former KKK Senator is Robert Byrd of West Virginia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Byrd

Contrary to popular belief, Strom Thurmond was never a member of the Klan. He did however, have some very racist views.

Robert Byrd entered the Senate at a time when the Democratic Party was the party of segregation. The KKK was the terrorist arm of the Southern Democratic Party. Remember that the Democratic Party was the party of the "Old South" and the Confederacy.

The Republican Party was formed as a Pro-Business and Anti-Slavery Party in the 1850s.

The Klan had a long history of killing blacks , Jews and Republicans because they were Democrats trying to fight for what they thought was right . Since then, the south has progressed into strongholds for the Republican party .

The liberal Democrats call the south stubborn to change because they won't change back to those " good ol days " when they and the KKK controlled it .

in keeping with different solutions that repeat the LIE that the racists grew to alter into Republicans: For a hundred years, the Republicans fought for the liberty and equality of blacks. Lincoln grew to become right into a Republican, and he gained the liberty from slavery for blacks. In 1957, Eisenhower sent the U.S. military to Little Rock to tension Democrat Governor Orval Fabus to desegregate the colleges. all the racist bigots grew to alter into Democrats after the Civil conflict because of the fact Lincoln grew to become right into a Republican. For a hundred years, Democrats have been people who lynched blacks and made regulations against blacks. that's why maximum blacks have been Republicans till the Democrats offered their votes with welfare in 1964. yet even however the blacks switched events in 1964, maximum racist bigots did no longer. what proportion pre-1964 southern racist Democrat bigots did no longer connect the Republican occasion after 1964? Orval Fabus Benjamin Travis Laney John Stennis James Eastland Allen Ellender Russell long John Sparkman John McClellan Richard Russell Herman Talmadge George Wallace Lester Maddox John Rarick Robert Byrd Al Gore, Sr. Bull Connor in certainty, it style of feels that lots of the Dixiecrats did no longer connect the Republican occasion, even however lots of them lived long previous 1964. purely an extremely few of them switched to the GOP, at the same time with Strom Thurmond and turbines Godwin. And as all of us comprehend with the help of now, the only admitted former KKK member in Congress right this moment is Robert Byrd, a former KKK Kleagle, a recruiter who persuaded human beings to connect the KKK. So the place can we get this fantasy that "maximum" of the southern racist Democrats switched to the Republican occasion after 1964? Is it a fantasy? or merely yet another Democrat LIE?

robert byrd.

i'm a dem and wish you wouldn't act like that. there are plenty of racists and ex racists, liars and thieves in both parties.

But if you want to think that the Party of Nixon and Ollie North all wear white hats, and the Party of Roosevelt, Truman and Kennedy all wear black hats, then I recommend you get a shotgun, go out and shoot all those damn dems.

It's one way to solve your problems. Then you'd have a one party country. While you're at it, shoot up all them non-Christians... then you're set. After all, the Klan is a Chistian Sect: They burn those crosses in the name of Jesus.

Confusing, isn't it?

Robert Byrd. However there were others with racist ties such as Strom Thurmond, Jess Helms and Trent Lott. Funny how everyone thinks political correctness unless they are caught red handed!

It was Robert Byrd. He was in the KKK as a young man. Pope Ratzinger was a member of the Hitler Youth as a young man. People sometimes make mistakes. If they correct them, no problem, right?

Hmm, which party was Lincoln in? The Republicans? Hmm. Some of those who work forces, are the same that burn crosses.
