I wish I could share points between topgalant and pretzel.
I was not fair, and it was a test question.
Topgallant was first, pretzel was more defined.
They were the only two that actually got it right.
I am flipping my coin

The pound of lead is heavier than the pound of gold because Gold is weighed with a different standard (Advroipois). So a pound of Gold is actually about 11 ounces in Troy Weight

This is NOT a trick questions, even if the people who think they know it all believe it is... there IS a difference in weight.

Actually, they both weigh the same by the pound. However, by the ounce ,it is different. Lead is measured in English measurement which has 16 ounces to the pound. Gold is measured in Troy measurement which is 12 ounces to he pound.

An ounce of gold wieghs more than an ounce of lead but a pound of gold weighs less than a pound of lead.

It all comes from the fact that ordinary (formally known as avoirdupois) onces and pounds are different from troy ounces and pounds used to measure precious metals.

A troy ounce is 1.097 avoirdupois ounces, making it heavier.

A troy pound is 12 troy ounces compared to 16 avoirdupois ounces in an avoirdupois pound so a troy pound is 0.823 avoirdupois pounds and is lighter.
