I really doubt they are unsearched. They always have some story like they broke the ceiling in old aunt milly's house and showers of wheaties came down. Then they counted them out to batches of 100 and they are selling them unsearched.

Now, even if the person that got them did not search them, over the 70 years or so, people were definitely looking for key dates. The truth is you really dont know if they are searched or not, and it is not possible to know. However, most of the times, they are cheap, and it is fun building your collection this way :)

Ancient coins are dug up by the the 100's of thousands, maybe millions, if you count the whole world. The low grade ones are usually not worth the bother to go through. So it is more in your favor, that no one really took the time to go through them. Most ancient coin collectors want the high quality ones and most can afford them. The average collector does not collect ancients. There are exceptions, some people love them and have a limited budget, so they do what they can. It is really the idea of learning about your coins that is important, not their value. You have a piece of history in your hand. A person who collects coins and knows the history behind the coins they collect is called a numismatist all others are just coin collectors. Enjoy your pieces of history.

Usually unsearched coins are coins brought in and sold, and are unsearched by the buyer, who knows if the seller searched them.
