That depends on where you live. The city i live in is very harsh on vandals. I hope you're not one of them the stress they cause not to mention the cost of removing it is very high. I work for on office with windows all around we get tagged at least once a month. We finally installed cameras and caught a couple of kids on camera. They were detained by the police a few days latter. They are going to court next week.

all depends on your city and age

in general if your a minor, pretty much nothing will happen at the most a small fine. My friend was arrested 5 times for graffiti and each time he ran from the police, which is an additional charge
other then vandalisim and all they do is process him and then call his parents to pick him up. The last time they made his parents pay $100.

if you are over 18 its probobly gonna be a fine, depending on how large the piece you drew just was and where usually around $100-$500, there is rarley ever jail time, jail time from graffiti is usually when the artist runs away and ends up fighting with the officer and they go to prision for assualting an officer. graffiti is a misdameanor in most cities and the punishments are pretty light. Community service is also pretty common as a punishment for being caught instead of or along with a fine.

If there is ever jail time that is the result of a writer who has a LOTS of pieces up, been caught multiple times before and is over 18 and will usually be a couple days, usually a weekend in jail.
However if you are planning to become a writer and start tagging dont count on seeing jail time.

Vandalisim is generally a light offense in most places, fines and community service are hte most common punishments with jail time being small and rare.

Remeber this pertains to the united states, european countries generally are the same, however countries like singapore take vandalisim much more seriously and being caned(being hit with a cane) is a common punishment.

I don't think jail time comes into play until you hit a certain amount of property damage or number of offenses and that's different in every state. I'm pretty sure with your first couple of offenses you are made to pay for the damage and do community service. Probation probably comes into play after the first offense and the jail time if you do it again. Why don't you call your local police department and ask them? :-) Or a defense attorney...

You know, if you're interested in displaying your art, there are much better and legal ways to do it. You may even end up getting paid! Put it on canvas! Shop it out to galleries... you may get a showing of your work and people may be interested in buying it! Those who say you're selling out are just jealous! I think you'd be making the public more aware. It's a service.

It depends. Are you under 18? have you been caught before? And what state are you in?

It's different in every city. I hope it's a lot. Graffiti "artists" think they can just write on other peoples' stuff. Can I come and write on YOUR stuff?
