I am noticing 2 replies that are consistent with Eastern philosophies -- Buddhism or HInduism. And several in terms of the newer and Western (Greek) philosophers.

No wonder our society struggles.

Money is a thing just like any other thing it needs to be used with respect and understanding. I personaly feel that I always have more money then I should even if thats just a penny. This thinking leads me to take the action of giving away money without having alot of attachment to it. I think it takes wisdom to use money for good but it can easly end up in the arms of the unwise if the wise dont stay wise with there money. Money has probably been one of the greatest teaching tools in humanitys history so far. It can show you what it means to be humble or give you a taste of respect so easly but if you abuse it to often it can cost your life just like any other tool thats being abused can. I personaly dont believe you should save more money then you need to save realisticly. It however should be invested as much as you possibly can. There is a huge difference between saving money and investing it and learning this leason can take a life time.

Money is a tool for emphasising and enhancing human greed. It essentially is something pretty much worthless (numbers on a machine, pieces of paper etc.) elevated to great levels by the value the society places on it.

Money, in my opinion should only be spent if it can have a bettering affect, for instance on the poor so they can afford a night of food/shelter, and saved so it can achieve this end. Money can't buy you happiness, many millionaires have lots of money and possessions, but they are empty and lonely because they lack the more humble possessions of a family/spouse.

Money is neither good nor bad. It is a convenient way to trade goods and services.

I believe in saving enough to provide for the retirement you are willing to endure.

I also believe each family should set its own priorities on where money should be spent. For instance, someone may spend money on music but not on books or cable TV, if that is their priority. In other words, if your income is sufficient to buy that big house or big car or cigarettes or 500 cable channels, then go for it. Just do not gripe because you have the big house but cannot afford to furnish it, or you have the big car but cannot afford the gasoline to run it.

Spend wisely, don't waste it, and save as much as you can for the future - you'll be glad you did!

Too many people do it backwards - spend a lot on things they don't need, then wonder why they don't have the money for things like a house or car or education (and then charge it all and end up making huge payments for years and getting in a deeper hole).

Money is GREAT if you're smart with it! :-)

[23] Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!"

[24] The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! [25] It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

[26] The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?"

[27] Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God."

[28] Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!"

[29] "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel [30] will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. [31] But many who are first will be last, and the last first."
-Mark 10:23-31

Money should be saved, transferred, and shared.

Otherwise, money is bad.

Money will afford you all the evils in life that distract you from your true purpose. Therefore, use your money for the betterment of others so that you may receive your rewards.

Money is spent in two ways: spend to invest, meaning spend it on something that can easily be sold at a certain margin to let it grow; and spend to consume to gain good health and enjoy the fruit of your investment. Money is good if you know how to use it. It is bad if you allow it to rule over you.

Luckily, i never had to worry about money in my life. I've been blessed with a wealthy family and now a great job.

I think its something that should be valued and you should only spend what you know you can. save a little , spend, and then give back. i think 10% of whatever you have should be donated.

money is what what keeps this world going. without it everyone would be lazy (if there is nothing to be earned then why work?). without money the barter system would be popular again. and without money human kind would generally be more resourceful.

o yea, without money the whole economy would collapse.

I'm not saying that money is good or bad, its kind of a need in life.
