While getting the exam may cause you to have a few cramps, it will not be enough to make you dilate any more.

I always hate those exams!

No, the dr checking cannot dialate you more.

Dialation comes from the pressure on the baby's side of the cervix.

The doctor checking your cervix should not make it dialate more . But I am a firm believer that if the doctor strips your membranes it helps you to dialate.

The doctor checking you won't affect how dilated you are. Are you asking because you want to dilate (relax, the baby will be born when it and you are ready), or because you're worried that you're dilating? Being a couple cm dilated at this point is totally normal - you could be dilated like that for another five weeks before you go into labour, or you could go into labour tonight.

No, that's kind of like saying that if I pull on my arm muscle it will get bigger. The uterus is a muscle. You can't stretch it once and it stay like that. It can, however, with him messing around in there, cause your mucus plug to start coming out and help the effacement process. But it won't make you dilate more and stay that way.

You won't dilate more as a result of a doctor checking you.
