Why are there so many people (people… not signaling anyone out of a certain sex, race or religion) out there that prefer to take a back seat to everything? Who agree with everything and not try to change anything because of their “comfort zone”, people who never speak up because they fear to be laughed at, or that they might actually change something… what’s up w/ that?

Because they would rather be helpless and some times even have people feel sorry for them rather than take some responsibility and make a change. Because if they accepted the roll they play, and the responsibility, then that might mean they would have to DO something. I think its much easier for people to have the attitude of being a victim all the time. Like "Oh woe is me" "bad stuff always happens to me", or " that's just the way the world is, I dont have control over it" type thing. Also I have found that many people are really non confrontational. Many people are afraid of conflict. So its easier to revert to helplessness.
Also I think our society has had a shift, where most people tend to think only of themselves and how they can benefit, with out really looking at the big picture. It used to be about community and working together, but in most places that has changed.

If a person never speaks up for what they believe in, they will have to settle with whatever fate gives them. A comfort zone allows us to piss and moan about why good things don't happen to us, too lazy to change a thing. Most people are just consumed by apathy and don't think they can do any better. These are the sheep who will be led down a path of darkness.
