I would not worry too much. If they guessed the baby's weight by ultrasound, remember that it is NOT a perfect science. They often make mistakes.

Besides, even if your baby IS 7 pounds, it won't grow that much in just 3 or 4 weeks. 8-10 pound babies are delivered successfully every day, and there's no reason you couldn't do it either.

They told me my son would be only 5 pounds, but he weighed 6.7 at birth.

Don't worry so much... the ultrasound could be off. Even if it isn't the baby will only gain another 1- 11/2 pounds before it gets here... so you will do fine... women deliver bigger babies all the time.

Also, if the baby is weighing bigger, it really doesn't mean it is safe for it to come out just yet... My sil went into labor with our neice at 37 weeks.... She was 9lbs 4 oz, but she had to stay in Neonatal ICU for the first 3 weeks because her lungs and other organs weren't ready. So waiting would really be the safer option... don't get into a big hurry. It may have harmful consequences...

Did they take the baby out, weigh it and then put it back? No. Then no one has any real idea how much your baby weighs.

"In diabetic pregnancies it has been demonstrated that ultrasound measurements are not more accurate than clinical examination to identify high birth weight babies (16). This led to the memorable title of an editorial of British Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology: 'Guess the weight of the baby'."
http://www.birthpsychology.com/primalhealth/primal10.html

"We compared the prediction of birth-weight based on factors shown by epidemiological studies to influence it with the performance of 2 clinical examples of ultrasonic fetal weight estimation reported in the literature. The standardized absolute error of the 2 examples of ultrasonic fetal weight estimation was similar to estimation by multiple regression of birth-weight on maternal age, parity, height and weight in 11,516 Chinese mothers. This severely limits the clinical utility of the estimation derived from these ultrasonic measurements."

What's more important to you, an easy delivery or a healthy baby? Why would you want to take a chance on having the baby early, right?

Relax, let your body be in charge, as well as the doctor who knows a whole lot more than the rest of us on this board. If he/she thinks it is too big, they won't hesitate to induce you. In the meantime, just be thankful you've got this healthy baby inside you - it won't be long now.

Good luck & God bless.

There's very little you can do aside from talk with your doctor about the possibility of inducing. But at 7 lbs now, it's unlikely they'll do that. Remember, ultrasound weight estimates are notoriously inaccurate. I was told they don't do them here because there's no point, there's almost no relationship between the estimate and the true birth weight.

You will be just fine sweetie, I am 39 and I was scared about how much baby I am carrying around. Not that any of us want it to happen but I am sure if your doctor is concerned they will discuss a c-section with you.

Remember healthy babies are normal weight ( your little one is), it's low birth weight babies that have more life long health problems.

Don' worry my ultrasound said my baby was going to be close to nine pounds, I stressed, but when my son was born he weighed 7.11. They were off by over a pound. Those things are never accurate. Good luck and Congratulations!

Don't stress over the estimations done by ultrasound. They are almost always way off! Both of mien were off by close to 2 pounds!! Both were bigger than estimated but you'll see you get some other answerer's where it is just as common to have it Overestimated!

Don't worry about the baby's weight. My sister's baby they estimated was going to be over 10lbs, so they did csection and she was 7lbs something. If your 1st baby was late, the 2nd would probably be on time. it is common for 1st baby's to be late, and 2nd baby's to be earlier.

dont worry, not all baby/delivery/pregnancy is same..after first child, normally there are chances 2nd will be bigger, as cervix/hip etc has widened a bit than first time.
