it is funny, one morning i was walking down the road and i saw a woman with a few children walking up towards me, so i crossed to the other side so that she and her children were free to pass, without having to get in the way of my stumbling a s s, as i was smoking some rather potent herb. you think you were looked at in " a strange way"? this woman, who was wearing a headscarf -in america they are referred to as towel heads, is this just a little difference between our two countries?- anyway, she gave me the dirtiest look, as if i were disrespecting her. she looked like she wanted to kill me. of course i have no idea what was really going on in her mind, as i choose not to read much into the way people look at me. i was feeling rather good myself and continued on down the road. everyone has to deal with rude people, and we have all surely been rude to others at some point here or there, including yourself. you can handle it. if not, it's time to learn. what world do you think you're living in anyway? why not make it one that you enjoy. we all have to build our own little corner of hell and try to live well...

She's probably just like that! and has had dozens of girls doing the same during half term. No it's not because of your headscarf - why do you assume that is the reason?

I'm quite sure that it won't be long before MK 1, New Look and Top Shop are incorporating their own ranges of headscarves - they have to appeal to all of their customers!

Please don't be disheartened, post your CV marked 'for the attention of' the manager/manageress of whichever shop, that way they can't overlook it.

I'm afraid it is a fact of life that some people are just plain rude, to everybody. When I worked in retail it was quite common for my boss to do the same, I always made sure that I left them on his desk and kept a note of the names and phone numbers, just in case!

They may not have any vacancies at the moment - but if you post your CV it's less likely that someone will just leave it under the counter!

Good luck, hope you find something soon!

Your complaint is that she "looked at me in a strange way"
What exactly is a "strange way"?
Are you the sole arbiter of "How to look at people"?
How would an English girl be looked at in an Arab Muslim environment?

Are you sure that:
1.You are not paranoid.
2. You just want to induce guilt in all these nice people on here and get them to apologise for being white.
I suspect that you went into the shop, just looking for a rejection so that you can shout "Racist".
No hard feelings of course.
Just leave your AK 47 at home on your next visit!
She was probably astonished that an Arab Muslim wanted a drop in income by coming off benefits and being stupid enough to work.
The Manager did all that she COULD DO!
What do you expect ?
Everyone to kneel and face Mecca just because YOU condescend to enter their shop?
As far as I can see,you're a self-centered kid.
With a racial chip on your shoulder.
Who told you to write this?
A MALE member of your family?

What's wrong with a lot of you answerers?
One person says "looked in a strange way"
and everyone is screaming about the WHOLE f**k*n retail market system !
Every shop-assistant in the country!
Every System of Education in the country!
Every parent raising children in the country!
You are all too scared to say "Perhaps you're wrong in the "way she looked at you"!

It is a FACT that non-English are playing the RACE CARD 24/7 and the polite, tolerant English are falling for it every time. And grovelling before every whining paranoid who has a grudge.
OF course one should have sympathy. But some of you are positively grovelling in your eagerness to condemn WHITES on NO evidence AT ALL!

By the way,if you're all so concerned about people.
Why don't you start making excuses for the Manager?
Perhaps she was a Lesbian whose partner had just died!
Perhaps she had PMT!
Perhaps she had facial paralysis!
Perhaps she was bravely recovering from a stroke!
All we have is someone's Paranoia about the way she's LOOKED AT!
And the whole Q&A system starts slagging off every English White this side of the f**k*n
Pepsi-Colas!

I know like in school people won't move out of the freaking way so when you scooch by they glare down on you? I think people have PMS issues and they're having bad days so they think it's okay to take it out on whoever comes along first. I personally don't give a crap if their day's been bad. iIdon't care if their dog got hit by a car just 5 minutes ago or they've just ripped the *** out of their pants or whatever. They shouldn't be taking it out on unsuspecting people.

Some people are rude, but that's their problem, just keep trying, something will come up for you.

without being meaning to be critical of you , the way this post is put together is poor, with bad grammar and spelling mistakes. that would put off an employer, not your religion.
So get some help and prepare a good CV, good luck.

Dear Yasmin, Their loss not yours. Would you want to work for a company which displayed such open ignorance and prejudice? We need a society in which people of different faiths work together, mix mingle, and yes perhaps argue. The alternative which is to drive people to the extremists on either side does not bear thinking about. Our society needs muslim role models, who while not necessarily all accepting of western culture, challenge the preconceptions of a monolithic, fanatical human rights denying fundamentalist image of Islam.

What did you expect, a formal reception? Doesn't sound as though she was that rude to me just not that interested. Don't take things so personally and anyway absolutely nothing happened - and you actually have no idea what she was thinking when she was looking at you.

To answer your question: lack of self honor to do better. Lack of love for the world and all people. Lack of education, lack of phycological development. choice. There is one more; some people feel culturally threatened by other cultures. That is understandable, but she still should not be rude about it. If only she could say: I feel uncomfortable around an arab... then the converstion is started...

maybe it just ignorance or rudeness or something to do with your head scarf but maybe they just" had no vacancies at that moment " as she told you. you should not feel so offended lots of young people looking for work hear that same answer each time they ask for a job .

Hi Yasmin she spoke to you that way because she has no manners, also she is nasty and arrogant. If you had got her name you could have written to her boss and complained. There are some lovely people in this world, so sorry you had to meet an ignorant one.
