I would have to admit that yes, it is irritating. However, some people might really be asking-They might not know the whole story, like if two people are fighting. It's obvious the problem is they are fighting, but what SEEMS to have started it? However, if it is something obvious , and heaven forbid this should happen, but if a woman is in court filing for a divorce and she has bruises all over her claiming that she was beaten by her husband, one would think that the judge would automatically assume that was the problem. So, if he were to ask her, "ma'am, what seems to be the problem in the marriage.."..then it would be something to honestly hate.

It is patronizing, yes.

However they are trying to be objective about the issue before getting all the facts about the "alleged" problem, and have a smooth transition towards the solution. Some people do blow things out of proportion.

Hope this helps.

It is a matter of perspective. From their perspective, there is no problem, from yours there is.

So to them there seems to be no problem, by asking they are only seeking to gain an insight into your perspective, and to perhaps provide a solution to a "SEEMINGLY" insoluble problem.

It is just more polite than saying "what the h---- is going on here?" Besides, when something goes wrong/bad - some people just do not understand why it happened...............
