I have been extremely curious to watch this movie for the longest time, and I saw a clip of it in a theology class and I couldn't stop thinking about it. I can watch movies like Saw, Hills Have Eyes, ect. but this seems like a different kind of 'scary'...what do you think? (and yes, I think I have the maturity to watch it)

The one response about being loosely based on a boy from Philly in the 50s is correct.

The film is a masterpiece. Compared to today's standard, the effects are dated, HOWEVER, it is a Theological mixed with psychological horror. I saw it back in the late 70s and it is the only film that truely scared me. These days, I still find it disturbing, but many have found it corny...How, I don't know, but it is a must see film.

Wonderfully done.

A lot of my friends have told me over the years," Oh my gosh! It's too scary. I can never watch that!" or ," my mom and dad would never let me watch it and now I am just too scared to ever watch it!"

First of all, this film is loosely based on a true story of a little boy who was posessed in like the 1950's or something. Posession is a scary thing to think about, and a lot of people believe in the devil and think that this could possibly happen. That is the scariest part of the whole thing. As far as the effects, etc., the movie is pretty old, and most of the special effects are a little outdated and not very realistic.

All in all, if you can watch the Saw movies and TheTexas Chainsaw Massacre and stuff like that, all of which make my stomach churn, you will be just fine watching this movie.

I have never seen It myself but then again I'm not a horror flick kinda chick . Its probably a different kind of scary to you because It's based on a true story . so If you can handle movies like saw and the hills have eyes go for It .

I don't find it to be that scary...my mom didn't let me watched it for years! It's not really scary, it's just disturbing because it's based on actual events. If you can sit through the torture of Hills have eyes, saw and all the current torture/horror movies, you can sit through the Exorcist.

you should def see that movie. it is considered one of the scariest movies of all time.
its considered scary due to the fact that there haev been alleged cases of this type of thing happening and stuff.
if your really religious it might be something to consider. there are real exorisms done all the time in other parts of the world.
even some here in the US.
if ya like this movie try some of the other ones that deal with the same subject matter.

excorsim of emily rose
stigmata

things along this nature.
all good choices

There's a lot more suspense than gore in this one. It's one of the best horror films ever made. Definitely see it.
