Do you mean the time while on birth control where you stop taking pills and have your period? If so, the odds are the same then as they are during the rest of the cycle. Birth control pills are almost completely effective so long as you take them property, once a day at the same time every day. There is always a very slight chance of getting pregnant, but that is incredibly rare so long as you are taking the pills as directed.

It is important to keep in mind that the pill does not protect against STD's, though, so it is always a good idea to use a condom anyway, even if you are on the pill. You can never be too safe.

YES, the pill works by tricking your body into thinking it is pregnant, so it is a very carefully engineered chemical reachtion in the body.
Many things can effect it's ablity to work properly, take it the same time everyday, don't take anti-biotics, if you miss a pill follow the package instructions very carefully(sometimes start an new pack), if you have vomited after taking your pill use other forms of birth control for a month.

Yes, despite what people say, the ONLY effective birth control is abstinence. If you are not ready to deal with the possibility of getting pregnant, you are not ready to be having sex.
