I live in a town that isn't very populated and i live with a grove, so obviously snakes are inevitable - but what kind of snake is slithering around? It doesn't seem to feel threatened, or be a threat [i hope], because i walked right passed it, and turned around when i heard a noise and saw it slither slowly away, in back of me. That was the first time i noticed it, all i saw was that it seemed like a solid tan/brown colour. I didn't get freaked out, but i'm not that afraid of snakes i guess, so i just walked away. Then i saw it again yesterday [or at least the same kind of snake] it was slithering down the grove and i noticed that it was two colours, pale red and the tan/brown. I've looked up a lot of snakes and cant find one that it resembles the closest i could come up with was a rubber boa and perhaps a rat snake, but even then it didn't have both colours i was looking for. I just want to know if its a poisoness snake and a threat.

hans solo - I can't give anymore details, because in truth there isn't anything i know more about the snake.
bri bri - Well it isn't like i'm going to look for it, in fact both times i saw it, i wasn't looking for it.

It's length was kind of long, and it's body was thicke, and it didn't seem to get more that much narrow as it went to it's tail, it kind of stayed the same width, only getting a little thinner.
And it was solid colours, it didn't have 'spots' or rings. It went from tan/brown to red both being on different parts of the snake, not at once.

You know what im sorry but I am tired of seeing the sources read over 50 years and I have my own collection etc.
Please if you are going to use a source come up with a scientific and factual source of information that the person seeking information can actually use.
Seriously are we just suppose to take your word for it.
Or will we hear oh I'm sorry did they die after being bitten by my so called experience, sorry.

If someone asks for help in identifying a snake, WE NEED TO KNOW WHERE HE/SHE LIVES. We also need to know what the snake looked like, how long it was (estimate), whether it was slender or stocky, and anything else that might provide a clue to its identity. It can also be helpful to know where it was (land, tree, water).
If Bite The Hand lives in Texas, there goes the rubber boa (unless it's an escapee)! The rubber boa is not native to Texas.
Putting aside escapees. if someone saw a snake in the water in Idaho, it was NOT a cottonmouth. If the snake was seen in Florida, it MAY HAVE BEEN a cottonmouth. If the sighting occured in Vermont, it was NOT a cottonmouth. If the snake was 14 feet long, it was NOT a native snake (at that length, it could have been a boa, python or, [yikes!] a king cobra).
If the poster provides an accurate description of the snake, it will be much easier to identify.
Help!

How about a geographic area to narrow down some possibilities? Also, was the patterned snake striped lengthwise (like a garter snake: http://www.springrivers.com/images/Width275/garter%20snake.jpg ), banded across the back (like a copperhead: http://brgov.com/dept/animal/Images/copperhead.jpg or water snake: http://www.uvm.edu/~efjoseph/nr260/brown%20water%20snake.jpg ), or in smaller distinct spots (like a corn snake: http://www.customvisuals.net/catalogs/previews/Rob_Valine/p0000000082.jpg or milk snake: http://www.dnr.ohio.gov/wildlife/Images/reps_herps/eastern%20milk%20snake.jpg )?
Also, do you have an idea of the approximate length? (these are the kinds of details Hans Solo is asking about)
If you live near a creek and there's limestone around, this might have been a queen snake (near-solid color except for underside: http://www.marshall.edu/herp/Snakes/Pics/Queen_Snake_1.jpg .
At any rate, the only possible venomous US snake that would fit your description would be a copperhead, and these have a very distinct pattern, so I doubt that you'll have a problem in that respect if you're within the US or Canada
ADDITION: Given the info you added, I'd guess your snake(s) are/were rosy boa: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/images/ltrivirgatasdnhm.jpg or rubber boa: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/images/cumbraticasb406.jpg (these 2 would be most likely), Western yellow-bellied racer: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/images/cmormonyu506.jpg , or sharp-tailed snake: http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/images/ctenuislkco05.jpg (these should be more northern)
See this link (where I found the photos used above) for additional photos and maps of where each species can be found: http://www.californiaherps.com/identification/snakesid/snakes.id.html

Hans wants more discription, probably as in where do you live exactly...some snakes are more commen in on area than others...if you could tell us where you lived we might beable to help you out more...
As for a rubber boa...they tend to only get about 2 feet long, so if you said it was kind of long (unless your description of long is actually pretty short) then it's more than likely not a rubber boa...
Edit:
Here are some sites with Pictures and information of a lot of snakes...maybe you can find what you saw in these:
http://www.werc.usgs.gov/fieldguide/snak.htm
http://www.socalsnakeremoval.com/SouthernCaliforniaSnakeSpecies.html
http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/snakes.html
If you say your long was pretty short than I think you are right with the Rubber boa:
http://www.californiaherps.com/snakes/pages/c.bottae.html
I hope this helps...GOOD LUCK!!!!

There are actually quite a few snakes that could meet your descripition, I would need more info to narrow it down to a specific species, but it is not venomouse, (if your in the USA that is), there are no venomouse snakes that match your description, so I wouldn't worry.
