I find Thinkpads are more durable and I also prefer the pointing stick to touchpads. The major knock against the T41 by most reviewers was the price- if you can get it for about the same price as the Presario, go with Lenovo/IBM.

IBM usuallay make a class kinna laptops but the thing is that the technology they use for LCD is not good enough, after a while u will get a LCD problems in IBM coz i have used morethen 15 IBM and most of them have the same problem, and the other thing is if u forget ur BIOS password then u will say good bye to ur brand new IBM, coz all u will get support is buy a new motherboard. beside HP/Compaq is better then IBM.

the t41 is an excellent machine....well built by a very reputable company who are the practical fathers of the PC world....i have had many desktop PC"s and more than my fare share of laptops.....(my first was an old Tandy)...but i can honestly say that i have never used a better laptop than a IBM....and i wont be going back to any other brand.....admittedly you don't get a whole lot for your money when you buy an IBM....unless your willing to pay more of course....but you will have an excellent machine....doing what it was designed for.....pure computing.....good luck with your decision

I suggest the IBM Thinkpad. It is more durable and most likely has a longer battery life. The Thinkpad my friend just purchased has enough processing power to play Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. So that should meet your requirements.

I would recommend a Compaq V2000, its outside has a smooth finish, and in fact, its widescrren display will be great for using microsoft excel, or if you're a teacher, for using Grading software.

I've had real reliability problems with compaq (and toshiba). Have you ruled out Apple? It sounds as though you would qualify for educational discount. Might be worth a look as their owners rate them highly.

If you can wait, the prices of CPU chips are going to drop drastically in a few months due to the new dual core chip AMD is introducing. Intel has already announced it will begin to reduce prices to as much as $100 for each chip.
