The mussles are bi-sexual and will breed ok if the conditions are right. That is pure clean and oxygenated water. The crayfish will need somewhere to hide. Forget the otsters, they are fussy and need a current to flow over them. Most streams have crayfish in them if you look carefully under stones. They are fast so you have to be quick.

wow.
to answer your question on fresh water mussels.

the mussels besides imitating rocks will actually filter water and thus removing floating Algae and other microorganisms. the mussels need impeccable water quality and are thus good indicators of it. mussels reproduce and have, like clams, a few different life stages. from the egg stage the juvenile stage is parasitic on certain types of fish, though parasitic they are not harmful to the fish. in the next stage of their life cycle they drop to the bottom to begin life as adult mussels. freshwater oysters are similar to mussels in requirements and in benefits. all these shellfish will need calcium as well as other trace elements in the water so a healthy shell can be maintained.

As for crayfish, they can be found in local streams and ponds, if your pond is natural then you might even have some. i would recommend getting at least 20 if you are to buy them, to make up for predation in an outdoor pond.

if you would want to contact me then you can visit my profile by clicking on my icon. there you could reach me by email or IM but make sure to have a clear title to your letter or i might delete it.

as for your other questions i will not answer them since this is a fish forum and they are not in my area of expertize.
