Too bad her aunt who is asking this question, isn't as smart! Shame on you... don't get inbetween parents and their children unless they are being abused... In this day and age, getting married under 18 is pure stupidity!

There are a very small select few states that you can get married under the age of 18 without the parents approval. In those states you must already currently live there and be pregnant or have a baby already. Usually you will need to go before a judge and/or need a doctor's note. It is known as the baby clause.

The following states have special exceptions for pregnant minors: Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia.

Really, she just needs to wait until she is old enough. If the situation at home is VERY bad, why don't you just invite her to live with you until she is old enough to live on her own.

You would think YOU as an adult would tell your niece what a HUGE mistake she would be making to get married SO YOUNG.... and yet here you are ASKING if there is a state where she can marry. Are you as stupid as SHE is being?????? seems like it. WHY aren't you telling her she is too young, why aren't you explaining all the hardships of marriage that come with teenage marriages? Why aren't you joining in with her PARENTS on this one???? Are you NUTS????? Sorry but you shouldn't even be ASKING a question like that.... you should be smart enough to realize that marriage this early in life NEVER works---she is just a CHILD and in no way ready for the responsibility that is a marriage.... Looks like YOU have some growing up to do as WELL as your niece.... I hope you BOTH start growing before EITHER of you makes a big mistake...

"Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Maryland and Oklahoma allow pregnant teens (with notarization from a licensed physician in the state) or teens who have already had a child to get married without parental consent. In Florida, Kentucky, and Oklahoma, the young couple must have authorization from a court. Maryland requires that the minor be at least 16." Otherwise, parental consent is required for marriage under the age of 18.

Come on now.i'm guessing you were one of those women that got pregnant at 14 and now is probably a few years older than this niece of yours...who is probably in the same situation and instead of treating her with the advice of don't be stupid...you are too young..normal advice...you come on here and ask this question. SHAME ON YOU

I don't believe she will be able to and why in the world would you want her to??? she is way too young to get married and start a family. The marriage would most likely not survive and with good reason. she is young, she needs to finish growning up herself, sow some oats so when mr. right does come along, she will be ready to settle down with him.
The Parents did the right thing. I strongly agree with them.
NO, too young. Good luck, God bless

Seriously, marriage is a long long LONG comittment (unless you divorce and then are free) why can't she wait a few years before getting married?

That is WHY it is 18, so at least your old enough that you should have known better.
