As the father you should no.... if he is looking like a monkey then yes do shave. Besides, you only need to show him how to do it once, then he will know how to do it forever after and he will know when he has to do it. Shaving too young has no bad effects.
Besides, being 17, we make fun of all the 13 and 14 year olds with moustaches at school :D

Does your 13 year old have facial hair? My cousin developed facial hair at an early age (just a couple chin hairs) and he began to shave at the age of 12 (i guess he wanted to seem like he was a "man") Now he has to shave every other day and he regrets shaving. Since he began to shave off peach fuzz it triggered the hair to grow back faster and thicker.
Its up to you.... Good Luck!

my answer is yes , my child began "practice" shaving with one of my old trac II razer handles without a blade cartriage when he was around 11 years old. a year later he was shaving regularly. i supervised him and directed him on how to shave and avoid common mistakes. he is now 17 years old and shaves daily. I can't recall a single time in 3 years that he has nicked or cut his face. he also likes to have the back of his neck shaved below the hair line 2 times a week.

if he has hair on his face that he is feeling embarrassed about then sure, let him shave. Should only need to shave a couple of times a week at that age though. I started shaving just before I was fifteen.

It sounds like he has stuff to shave, and he wants to shave, so let him. The long hairs on the chin thing looks bad. He is growing up, get used to it!

when he goes to the barbers they can usually do somegood things in the way of shaping and styling i seen it done and it looks cool, but if your son is become so unhappy then a visit to the docs may rule out some problems that
cause to much hair growth. hormonal changes on this age group can be so awful sometimes. hope i helped good luck!

If he has hair to shave and wants to shave, then why not let him. After all, unwanted hair can be the source of teasing from friends or personal embarassment. So let him decide...

i started when i was 13...im glad i did. Now im 15 and I can grow out a good beard if i wanted to, but mom isnt a huge fan of it. I think if he wants to, you should let him as long as u trust him to be careful with a razor.

Shaving *can* encourage the appearance of hair growth. However, it's not dangerous.
If he's self-conscious about hair growth during puberty - especially the fine or wild hairs that seem to pop up overnight, there's should be no harm in encouraging high grooming standards.
