Maybe your mother doesn't want you to be spoiled at your age. A Mercedes is a nice car, and some day you will be a grown up and you can buy your own. But to have one given to you, maybe your mother feels like that's too much for you at your stage in life.

Mercedes, according to a lot of my friend's experiences, is not a reliable vehicle. In reality, Mercedes is nothing more than a Brand name that overcharges based on that Brand name, like Harley Davidson, and various other overpriced products that have the same or lesser life expectancy than its competitors that are at half the cost. Honda and Toyota are very good automobile manufacturers and would be GREAT first cars for you; they have better warranties and have far better environmentally sound choices. My first car was a Volkswagen Jetta, even though I wanted a BMW, but I have no regrets and would now purchase a Volkswagen over some of the luxury automobile companies. I would also suggest a Lexus over a Mercedes.

She probably wants you to have something reliable that will last a long time.

Mercedes aren't noted for their reliability.

She may just also think that a Mercedes is an inapproriate car for a 16 year old. It may very well be a money problem. I'm sure a 2004 Mercedes will cost a pretty penny more than a 2004 Honda.

Update: Let me phrase it a little differently. It may be your parents don't want to spend Mercedes money on your first car, even though they have the money. Teenagers often wreck their first cars. Or maybe they'd rather spend that money elsewhere than on a Mercedes for their child.

It may be because they don't want to spoil you. Perhaps they feel it's proper to provide you the basics, but for luxuries you should provide your own.

Just ask them.
