Either he wants to be friends or he does not. If he just wants to be friends, then he probably doesn't really "need" you anymore. Either way, his uncertainty suggests that he is not ready for a real, committed relationship. He is just trying to let you off easy, which is impossible. You are better off breaking it off and moving on. Good luck!

You can need someone but need to be just friends at the moment.
Maybe he is goin through a rough time that he thinks it would be better if you wasnt there to get hurt but still needs you to be his strength. =]] .
Not all guys are bad ones that dont mean what they say.
You have to use good judgment though!

Well, of coruse the break-up is hurting you. If you was friends before you went out, then go for it. But the choice is up to you, because he made his choice by becoming your friend.
