I'd say for a pitcher's psyche, an error by a fielder would be better. That way, if that was the only thing keeping you from a perfect game, you could still say that you didn't make a single mistake.

Ask Milt Pappas if he would have preferred a walk.

Pappas was perfect for 8.2 innings when pinch-hitter Stahl drew a walk on a whisker-close, 3-2 pitch. The next batter made out to complete the no-hitter, an 8-0 victory for the Cubs.

EIther way sucks, but at a guess the walk would be slightly easier to digest, as the pitcher would know it was his own effort that let the perfecto get away.

A walk, then it is the pitchers fault and he can't blame anybody on the team for making the error.

An error cause then its not your fault if your on the mound. Plus, I hate walking people.

I'm sure the guy pitching the perfect game would be upset with either. However, he would be in a major funk if he walked the batter that cost him the perfect game.

the media would kill your team mate and he would suffer

its just the pitchers fault if a walk happens

I would say walk, at least that way it was the pitchers own mistake.
