When was the Democrat Party hijacked by the communists?

I swear that FDR was the last true Democrat. He was a great man and a great, strong President. After he left office, I think Democrats either lost their balls or were infiltrated by communists, or both.

The changes made in the Democratic party came as a result of Watergate when the Democratic Party absorbed several smaller parties such as the Social Democratic Party. Those members are not so communistic, but were heavily socialistic in their views. Because these people were very active in the party over the years they have worked ther way into the power structure and thus are making the decisions. However the same question can be asked "When was the Republican party hijacked by the religious right?" Wasn't Gerald Ford the last of the real Republicans?

If you honestly think that the Democratic Party are communists, then you are so unknowledgeable as to have no idea what communism is. You are free to criticize Democrats and not like them, but, for the love of all that is good and holy, do a little friggin research so that your criticism is at least based in reality.

The only connection between Democrats and communists is the belief that George W. Bush is evil. If that makes the Democrats communists, then just about 90% of the world are communists too.

From some of the answers, I think you're question should have been (why do democrats always 'skirt' the issue and choose to attack republicans instead?) There is no doubt that socialists think they have an ally in Democrats. I think it started with FDR and the 'New Deal'. It was necessary then, but modern-day Democrats have taken those programs and ran them into the ground - expanding them to such a degree that they are all sinking under their own weight. Just bad politics all around, I think.

He was a socialist, trust me he had a very dark side. But around 59 or 60 when Kruschev was premier of the Soviet Union he said that we may not militarily beat you, so we will beat you from within by infecting your youth with ideas of socialism and we will do this in your colleges and universities. Now everyone at the time thought he was nuts, but look at our country today and see if his words haven't come true in some form. Socialism is rampant in our country and left unchecked will destroy us.

The Dem Party today holds no candle to what it once was. The party has morphed into a ragtag band of "Me's" expecting to be spoon fed everything good and sweet in life and bellowing vociferous objection whenever they perceive that their "entitlements" are being threatened. It is a party whose lot will dwindle with time because the principles they espouse cannot withstand the test of time.
