Your parents are probably concerned of the influence this "troubled" friend will have on you. Just explain to your parents that your friend's problems are NOT yours, you are merely a friend to this person and whatever problems they have are not an influence on how you personally are going to live your life. Also remind them how beneficial it can be to have a good friend when you're troubled, as your friend is. You may be the one good thing they've got going!

Tell your parents (if you dare) that you consider this person a friend and friends remain friendly--it's what they do. Also tell them you you yourself are not going to become troubled because you have a troubled friend and you also most definitely will not join the friend in whatever trouble he or she manages to find.
BTW, if by "I talk to him" you mean that you spend time with him doing what he does, be VERY careful that you don't get involved in the "trouble" (whatever that may be). That warning is especially true if his behavior is anti-social. Also, realize that you can be a friend but you cannot under any circumstances save another person from bad or poor choices.

There have been many years of build up towards this sudden change of character. Do you actually know why he has suddenly become so agressive. If this was not his character before, there must be a reason, besides his unfortunate upbringing, that has brought about this terrible change in his character. Even you, his good friend, have deserted him in his hour of need and have made no effort to talk to him in a while. This must've added to his feelings of hurt and anger. I admire you for wanting to reach out to him and give him a chance to talk friend to friend, but first you must convice him that you are still his friend and that you are very worried about his personality change. I hope that you can get him to tell you what is wrong, but you must make a very strong effort to help him if you can. If you find it too much to cope with, then perhaps he needs professional help.

Not knowing your ages it is not easy to answer that. But if he is in a lot of trouble it sounds like your parents are trying to protect you from getting hurt.
You need to tell your friend the truth that you want to be there for him but you can't go against your parents wishes. You can pray that things work out where he can get out of trouble and you can be there for him, but don't put your neck in a chopping block to help someone who may not be able to help you if you are in trouble.

I have been in this situation before, and I know how you feel! Althought I hate to say it, parents usually have the best interest of their children at heart, and they only want to keep you safe. Their instincts are probably correct: HOWEVER, sometimes even our elders make mistakes!
Try introducing your friend to your parents: remain his friend, but make it very clear to him how your parents feel about your friendship. I'm not saying to be cruel: just explain how they don't trust him. Perhaps you can invite him to dinner at your home, or to meet your parents. If the two parties know each other, they might realize that the other is not as bad as they thought.

Sorry but you need to listen to your parents. They possibly might know a little more than you do.
