It wasn't always that way. The FDA saved us from some terrible drugs over the years. You are probably too young to remember thalidomide, it was a drug that caused horrible deformities in children in Europe. The FDA kept it out of the U.S.
It is only since the Republicans took over that the FDA has been defunded and laws written by the drug companies. We can only hope that we can get some good people in congress that will fund the FDA and hold them accountable.

No, it's a nearly worthless organization controlled by laws made by Congress and apointees made by the executive. The members of Congress and the President, in turn, are unduly influenced by special interests, which include corporations, environmentalists, and many others.

The FDA is nothing but another failed government bureachracy. If people weren't morons that wouldn't put things into their bodies that weren't independently tested in the first place. The FDA delays worthwhile drugs and increases costs significantly. If you did end up taking a drug that had adverse effects and harmed you, then you have the same recourse all American do, sue someone.

I'm sure you're half right. I think there is pressure to cave to corporate interests, but like any organization it can't be completely corrupt. There has to be people working there who are deeply committed to the public good - unfortunately the good people like that wear their commitment on their sleeves and the corrupt individuals learn to work around or run over them. The corrupt folks are harder to spot.

They aren't perfect but its only because they have to follow the rules given to them by higher up government agencies. Without the FDA you would be eating food full of insect, take medications that could hurt more than help, have medical instruments used on you with no safety regulations, shall I go on?!?!?

What part of a criminally corrupt government in effect is not? Why? Well first let's start talking about those lowlifes with the extensive series of nonverbal signals, coughing twice, and lolling their tongues out. I'm not into that, you go first. Assuming that's righteous indignation for real.

not really, i mean they do monitor foods that go in our stores. they make sure that none will get us sick or anything. there is some good to them, and it would be silly if you wanted to ban them.

Firstly, I would have to ask you what makes "corporate interests" so bad?
Corporations are part of what makes the US great.
