Yes, LAn is faster than wireless, but that doesn't mean youre going to get a faster pipe from your ISP. While I wouldnt say the modem is a scam, it is more a marketing ploy than it is an advance in gaming. Just do the regular things, No p2p on a gaming machine. Use lan not wireless, use a light antivirus and anti spyware and firewall and when you know is safe, modify your usage. (You know for example your not going to get spyware from a safe gaming site, turn it off). Go into msconfig and turn off all uneeded processes and startup items. et your performance characteriscs in my computer and also in your vid card settings. but more ramm and a beter vid card.

If your verizon modem has a LAN port you can connect this router to it, it will work for connection sharing, but needs the verizon modem to connect. Alternatively you can use a dsl router/modem in place of the verizon. This will not change the speed either way, as the speed is governed by the dsl connection, all these modems and routers are much faster than the line allows.

You're going to want to connect your Verizon DSL modem into the WAN port on the router you buy. You don't replace your Verizon DSL modem. All you need is a standard network cable to connect the two.

Well, that dlink sounds like its a router, and not a modem. You would still need a modem to get the internet connection as well as the dlink router. Verizon does not support any modems/routers that aren't provided by them, so if you get one, you would be on your own as far as technical help. On the other hand, they do have two gateways (actiontec and westell 327) which are a modem-router combination. The choice is yours, really.

I'm afraid you are going to have to run that by Verizon.

Sorry!

You can usually use whatever - but you might want to check with verizon to see what is compatible.
