Pilates involves strengthening your tummy muscles. It is a lot of crunches and sit-up-type exercises.

Losing the baby belly is a goal of almost every new Mom. When both of my babies were born I was so excited to meet my new baby and I was also ready to get rid of that heavy little "watermelon" I was toting around in my belly. After the baby is born it can be discouraging to still look "pregnant" for the next several weeks. The belly does shrink in time and with a little targeted effort you can lose the baby belly quickly. Here's how: 1) Breastfeeding: The first several weeks after the birth, losing the baby belly is mostly controlled by Mother Nature as the uterus shrinks back to its normal size and your body heals from the birth. The one way that you can speed this up is by breastfeeding. The hormones that are released during breastfeeding assist in shrinking the uterus. However, if you have no complications and are cleared by your doctor there are several other things you can do to lose baby belly fat. 2) General exercise - just get moving. Being a new Mom can be really tough between getting to know your baby, lack of sleep, and no time to do anything except care for the baby and the basic chores that must happen. Don't stress yourself out but do try to fit some activity in your day. Take your baby for a walk in the stroller either outdoors or at the Mall or do some stretches during breaks around the house. Keep a set of weights around the house to use when you get a chance. Take a walk during lunch if you work. Be creative and flexible since your schedule will constantly change as your baby grows. 3) Do some exercises aimed at strengthening your stomach muscles. When you strengthen these muscles it will help shrink your baby belly. You still have to use exercise and a good diet to lose baby belly fat but strengthening your stomach muscles will pull your belly back in. Here's a trick, you need to target not only your stomach muscles but also your core muscles, especially the transversus abdominis. This muscle is located deep in your stomach and is not usually in great shape after pregnancy/birth. One of the easiest ways to work this muscle is to suck your belly button in toward your back as far as you can and hold it for 10 seconds. Release and do it again. The great thing about this is you can do it almost anywhere. Do this exercise several times throughout your day and over time keep building up to longer holds and more often. This can help your posture, your balance, and will tighten up your tummy to lose the baby belly. If you add some abdominal exercises to this such as crunches then the baby belly will soon be history. There are hundreds of different abdominal exercises so find one that works for you. Simple crunches may be your favorite or maybe you have an exercise ball you can incorporate. The point is to find what works in your daily routine and strengthen your stomach muscles as well as your core muscles. 4) Losing the baby belly will happen even quicker with a good diet. If you stop losing weight and are no longer losing baby belly fat then you may need to address your eating habits. The exercises will strengthen and tighten your stomach but you have to burn more calories than you take in to lose baby belly fat that is covering the muscles.

It's so hard to lose baby weight...I was always very thin, I weighed just over 100lbs before I had my son...now I have 2 kids and I've yet to lose the extra15lbs they've left me :)
I've been dieting for a few weeks and I've lost 7 lbs so far, I've just been cutting back portions and not eating out. I also have been running on my treadmill every morning for about 20-30 minutes depending on if the baby wakes up. It's tought to fit in exercise when I work 6am to 6pm and have 2 kids...but it's going alright so far. Pilates is a great way to tone, but it is difficult if you aren't already in pretty good shape.

My son is 5 months also and I'm still trying to lose the weight off my belly and it is sooo hard. I've just moved house and it is so hard to find time to fit in exercise. I'm just gonna get into my giant sucky-in pants and pretend I'm skinny and they also double as a great contraceptive cos my partner is strangely not turned on by them ha ha. Seriously though I'm gonna start doing some abdominal workouts and stick to a low carb diet cos food like bread puts weight round your belly so I've heard. Good luck x

You are doing great to be in yr size 10 jeans honey, my sis says it took her 9 months to make a baby and atleast 9 months to get her body back!
Sorry to say it involves lots of exercise, to burn off the extra bits and serious sit ups, even then you may always have a tiny belly, but that's just the sign you are a mom! be proud of your bumpette!

chinese sit ups have helped me out A LOT. You do those by laying on your back, lift your legs to a 90 degree angle from the floor without bending your knees.
they are really hard at first, but the more you do them the tighter your midsection becomes.
also running and jogging is good, but i dont seem to have time lately. i woulr recommend jogging as the fastest. i lost a lot of weight in the past doing that.

Do crunches every day. You can even incorporate your baby into your work out routine. Place the baby on your tummy with his back against your legs when you do crunches. My son LOVED that, since he thought it was a big game. Also, get out and walk walk walk! Baby will love the fresh air, and it will help you to lose that baby fat. Good luck!
