Laptop not Charging...?

I have an old compaq laptop. I was on it this morning and it just went dead. I tried charging it but the light that shows up once you connect the laptop and the charger isn't even showing up. It seems the the little metal tip inside the charger slot has been moved or broken...any way to fix or replace it?

Laptop batteries only last for a few years. Might be time to purchase a new battery.
