How to make the flow from my AquaClear filter less intense?

I have an AquaClear mini and it dosen't have a flow control on it it is an older model the current seems to be too much for my betta fish. Is there ayway to fix it, do I put something in the intake tube like foam or something, do i make the intake longer or shorter and suggestions would help.

Stuff the filter full of a fine foam filter batting instead of the foam sponge they sell for it- this will help clog it up and slow filtration, while actually providing superior fine partical filtration and excellent biological.

I think the easiest way to slow the flow would be to stuff something in the intake tube -- on the section that goes inside the filter. Foam would be easy, but might require frequent cleaning... since it will constantly screen and filter the water from the tube. Maybe try an eraser and cut it to fit somehow. You basically just want to restrict the flow and I think you already have the idea. I'm sure anything you use should be fine, as long as it doesn't end up getting caught in the motor.

As far as I know Betta's do not like alot of water flow. If the Betta is all you have in the tank than I would say that a spung filter is your best bet. If you have to use the power filter try and put a well cleaned nylon or cheese cloth over the return tube to slow down the return flow. You can attach it with a rubber band or platic tie wrap.

I second Ghapy on this. I use aquaclears myself, and I add poly pad to the premix half, the part that fills up with water before mixing in the mechanical/chemical/biological half. It tends to reduce the surface break from the output slightly. I'd think that you could use that poly pad at the point where the outflow enters the tank to reduce the force of the water hitting the surface. You could also as Aly mentioned ditch the filter and use the sponges, but using sponges is going to require more maintence work on your part. Nothing wrong with using that filter you have now.
