Toyota is the most reliable. Just look at the numbers. They finally ousted GM to take over #1. That means clients think highly of them...globally. They are #1 in production, which means they are up there in sales, too. Why produce 10's of millions of cars if no one is buying them? Also, with regards to recalls. Toyota sends out recalls due to the fact that some conerns with vehicles have cropped up several times. A recall (Special Service Campaign) notice doesn't mean something will fail/break, only that the concern has been noted and repairs/replacement will be done free of charge. Check the books. Toyota isn't the only one to have recalls. Dollar for dollar, Toyota is the best. They were also the first automaker to produce, manufacture and sell a hybrid vehicle, the Prius. Now, you can add Camry and Highlander to that car. Eventually, all or most of Toyota vehicles will be hybrid. The bottom line is Toyota cares about producing the highest quality products, with equal regard to customer service.

Toyota had more recalls last year than GM. Can you believe that? People THINK Toyotas and Hondas are better than GM and Ford - but not anymore. That used to be the case, but American cars are now just as good if not better.

Define reliable....long lasting...or cheap to maintain, cheap on gas ???
Toyota, Nissan, Mitzubishi are all reliable in my book. Most I've seen (excluding newer ones of course) have close to or above 200K miles.
Duracell ain't got chit on these cars.

Toyotas have a well deserved reputation for reliability.
I like the guy above me citing recalls. Funny, I thought a recall happened when the manufacturer was willing to fix the problem. GM has plenty of problems...they just don't recall the vehicles to fix them.

Mercedes has a well deserved reputation for ultra reliable cars. Repairs aren't cheap when they do happen though.

On the whole, they are up there with Honda. Volkswagen comes in a fairly close third.
