My sister had bad postpartum with her first child. She is expecting again, but this time around, she is afraid of getting really bad panic attacks again. I know you can take Zoloft while pregnant but that doesn't quite work while having a panic attack episode. Are there any safe Benzodiazepines for pregnancy?

Yes. Your sister should speak to her obstetrician. If she doesn't have one who is comfortable having this discussion with her, she should ask to be referred to an MFM (maternal fetal medicine specialist).

I am currently taking Effexor because I have generalized anxiety as well.
The doctor asked me if I wanted to take something like Ativan (which I think is a Benzo?)....but I wanted something more for long term. So I am assuming from her asking me if I wanted it that it would be ok.
Not 100% sure. You can call maybe a health line, they might know or even your pharmacist.

It's somewhat common for benzodiazepines to be prescribed during pregnancy. There's a lot more research on the older ones than the newer ones (namely diazepam).
