It is all about what you like. You will be another brother in the wind no matter what you buy. I would keep in mind that a Harley will always have a better resale value, parts availablity, accessories etc. Not to mention, they are made right here at home. The 2000 has the new EVO motor so they are as reliable as any other.

VTX1800. 800LBS OF PURE POWER! Smoke the back tire for 30ft. in second gear or a seven year old bike. I'm still trying to figure out the fascination with a HD. Yeah, most of em look good, sound good, and run OK ; but at the end of the day where is your heart? Do you, I mean you, want that used HD to ride or are you trying to impress someone? I'm sorry, this is suppose to be an answer not more questions.
As for me, I want the best bang for my buck and when I buy a bike, I buy it to ride. By the way the VTX 1800 is available in three models to suit your taste, fuel injected and ready for aftermarket exhaust, and plenty of accessories.
I must admit I also have a slight fascination with the HD brand, but I don't believe the bikes or the riders are any better just because of it.
OK, enough already, you should buy the VTX. That's my opinion. You asked.

Go with the Harley. Don't spend your money on something that will loose it's value the minute you start it up. The Harley will hold its value and give you an incredible ride at the same time. The comfort, the style, the sound....no Honda can come close. Get that low rider before someone else beats you to it.

Get the Harley! I have about $35k into mine and it will only continue to go up in value. Given, its a complete dog compared to the Honda, and that Honda will blow the Harley away, but who cares - you don't buy a Harley for reliability or speed, you buy it cuz its a Harley. Don't forget that if you buy the Harley, you'll need to spend an additional $2000 on the leather costume with HD logos on it, several t-shirts, and all the other accessories that you need when you get a Harley.

Buy the Harley! If you purchase the Honda you will loose 30% of purchase price as soon as you drive it off the lot. The Harley will hold its value and could increase over time. Plus, nothing like riding a Harley. There's Harley then everyone else...

Your choice. (aint it anyway?)
I like Hondas, always have. Most of mine have been Hondas. The VTX is a decent bike. But I wouldn't trade my Dyna for one.

If you can get the Harley for the same price get the Harley. Harley Davidsons hold their value better....
