Take 75 to 45. Either leave before 7 AM or after 9 am. When you get to Houston, either take the Hardy Toll Road around the City or take IH 45 all the way to Galveston. Houston rush hour starts between 3 and goes to 7. If you leave before 7 am (or go at night) , you will miss it in both cities. I would leave about 6:30 in the AM and it should be a piece of cake.

I don't know about Dallas but in Houston you are going to want to take I45 all the way. Try to time it so you don't hit the south side between 4:30pm and 6:00pm. If you want to save some time, and are willing to pay $ you can take the Hardy Toll Rd South, to 45 South.

You're gonna need to take I-35 to I-45. There is no getting around it. That is the route to take to Houston. There is no way to predict traffic. I've been in traffic on LBJ (635) at 10:00pm. Don't drive between 800-900 or between 430-630 in either cities. Other than that, you are on your own. Good luck. I hope you can avoid that ugly city traffic.
