I have a deskjet 812c and a laserjet 4 mp that are hooked up to my desktop. I was wondering if i could make them public on my wireless network so i could print off of them on my laptop without having to be hooked up physically to the printer.

Right click each printer and set it shared. Right click each my computer, select properties and set the workgroup name to the same name on each. Then open the firewall exception for file and printer sharing on the machine with the printers attached. If you are using Vista, go to the tcp/ip properties and under advanced/wins set always use netbios over tcp/ip and turn off use lmhosts. You can now browse to the server machine in network on the other, double-click to install the printers.

Yes. 1) access the printer definition on the desktop and on the sharing tab make sure the 'share this printer' option is selected and give a share name, for ex: HOMEPRINTER.
2) I am not sure how savvy you are with computers. But, please check the windows firewall settings, under exceptions tab, 'file and printer sharing' must be checked.
3) On your laptop, select add a printer and when prompted select network printer rather than local printer. It should be able to find the printer.

If it doesn't work after these steps, you have to make sure that you use same workgroup on both machines. Hope this helps.

You have 2 printers connected to your desktop. I presume the desktop is connected to the network (either wireless or wired). If it is not connected to the network, connect it to the network either wired or wireless.

Now go to the desk top, open Printers and Faxes, select each printer separately and right click on it. Go to properties, select share to share the printer; give it a name as it asks. Do this for both printers. Make sure the desktop is on.

Now go to the notebook. Go to printers and faxes. Go to Add a printer. Select network printer or printer connected to another pc (or something similar in wording). You will see the desktop and under it the 2 printers; select each one (one at a time) and follow the prompts. You now can print to those printers as long as the desk top is on and you are on the network.

Go to the desktop and under the Properties for those printer you can turn on "Print Sharing". This will allow you from any computer on your network to go into My Network Places and find and add the printe. Once added you can print to them just as if they were attached to your computer.

Well, almost....
What actually happens is that when you print, the document gets send to the desktop, and then the desktop does the actual printing. But a person using the desktop will not see anything, nor have to do anything to make it print. It is all automatic. But because it is the desktop doing the actual printing, the desktop would have to be turned on for you to print through it.
