It's called playing to win. If the fielder is stupid enough to listen to any voice, then the next time he's in Cleveland, I'm getting box seats by the visitor's dugout, order a bunch of food from a vendor and then yell to the player that he needs to give me money for the bill.

I think A-Rod what he did is horrible for baseball you complain about infielders pretending to have the ball or catch the ball they're not saying anything to the baserunners who should be more concerned with paying attention where the ball actually is. Saying something while someone is trying to catch the ball is classless, but then again the whole face of the Yankees are classless. So they have to go to the measures to try to win. I haven't seen any other player do it except for A-Rod so do you propose every player should do that? Next time the Yankees A-Rod better be prepared to see a ball in his grill because you know it's going to happen, A-Rod has no respect for the game.

Dude, I agree with you. It was the infielders job to catch the ball. If he would have stayed with it, then the out would have taken place. He was the one right under it when he decided to give it up.
Just around two weeks ago I saw Andruw Jones pretend like he lost a ball in the sun to see if a runner on second would take off to third. The runner didn't fall for it. Oh well, Jones tried. Needless to say, Jones caught the ball. It's gamesmanship.
I think that the infielders were completely embarassed about it and made it an issue. Who says they "have" to listen to A-Rod anyway. The guy got fooled. Pure and simple.
If you aint cheat'n, you aint try'n hard nuf.

first of all, pretending to tag a runner is illegal, it is obstruction and the umpire can award any extra bases the runner may have gotten had he not slid into a base thinking there was a play on him.
Trickery has always been part of the game but has always been looked down upon, he was smart to do it, all sports involve some forms of out-smarting your opponents to gain an advantage, why not baseball. I've seen outfielders pretend like they could make a catch on a ball that was going to bounce off of the wall, this forced the runner to stay for a tag and instead of scoring he only got to 3rd.
People have always hated A-Rod because he makes so much $, I'm not saying he's worth it but I sure wouldn't turn down the money if I were him, I have no objections to this play, and people that do need to remember that "There's no crying in baseball"

ARod behaves like a 4 year old. Sure he can hit a ton, but when it comes to things not going his way he's something of a child. As a pervious poster mentioned in one of the play off games where Boston was previously down 3-0 and came back to win 8 straight games including the world series ARod was jogging past Arroyo and before the pitcher could tag him, he simply swatted the glove out of the way and knocked the ball loose. Of course he was called out after pretending like he didn't know what happend in my eyes right there I lost all respect for him. Then when i saw him sliding into 2nd against the Jays the other night and lashing out with his elbow in a attempt to hit the player about to throw the runner out at 1st...lets just say I wasn't surprised by it..but since I had no respect for him as a player I wasn't diappointed by it. Yankees fans have to be so saddend by the injury plagued season..and Arod is reaping what he deserves having a great season hitting home runs but still losing games.

You seem to have a great deal to learn about the concepts of sportsmanship and fair play.
The situations that you outline work very well, when you know your team mates and in particular when you know their voices. Clark had been called up earlier in the day and had never worked with McDonald. For that matter, the two may never have met before Wednesday. Deliberately causing that confusion can also lead to significant injuries all around. That's far from hilarious.
This is not in the least bit similar to Gagne's and Knoblauch's deke of Lonnie Smith. All that Smith had to do to NOT be fooled was to take a quick look at the outfielders, and that is standard in baseball. Lonnie Smith wasn't deked by Gagne, but by himself. And there was nothing in that situation that could have caused an injury to anyone.
All in all, Rodriguez' actions on the field were as low as where his actions a day or so earlier, in stepping out on his wife.

I hate A-Rod but what he did is part of the game. I remember doing that when i first started to play baseball when i was seven. The blue jay infielder just missed it and was trying to find an excuse. A retaliation would be stupid. Just accept a loss even if its from the yankees.

Did you see when the Red Sox played the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS? A Rod tried to pull the ball out of Arroyo's glove on a play at first, like most great competitors he is a bit of a goon.

Yes. If you have ever played ball, there are certain things you do not do. That includes interferring with an infield fly. The umps should have called the fly out and him and then dismiss him from the field. This is real serious but since he is A Rod it will pass by.

I agree 100% with you. Clark was the only idiot that fell for this trick that probably happens all the time and in most games. He was probably embarassed that he fell for this, and decided to whine about it. How do you confuse the shortstops voice for arods spanish accented voice???
If you are the Blue Jays, dont let ARod get clutch 2 out hits to get on base in the 9th and this wouldnt happen!
